Hi,
Since I installed FE on my X1000, I am no more able to use Workbench Contextual Menu to Copy/Paste files or drawers.
Each time, Paste action doesn't paste the file and sometimes, "ContextMenu Paste Task" abends (crashlog below) and very rarely I have a Requester from "ContextMenu Paste Process" with "??x?" stranges characters.
I noticed this problem since the clean install and even when I boot from the CD, Copy/Paste doesn't work.
Of course, when I drag'n drop a file between 2 volumes, the file is well copied. Duplicate works too.
No problem with 4.1.6 that I keep in another partition.

Thank you by advance for your help

Re: FE and Copy/Paste crash
I do not see this behaviour on my X1000 FE system.
My HDD uses sfs/02 blocksize 512b.

Hi,
Yes, it's for all the files/drawers from/to all my partitions (and, as I said, even when I boot and use the DVD Workbench).
I tried with Snoopy to copy the file "Work:Bench9250.txt" to another sfs/02 partition named "Rien:"
In the Snoopy output, I don't find a reference to "Rien:" destination but again these strange characters. This time I doesn't show the requester.
Full snoopy log here :

Thank you
Guillaume

Re: FE and Copy/Paste crash
Random thought, are your fonts all present, is your keymap set correctly?

Re: FE and Copy/Paste crash
I've seen this fault before. Years ago, it used to happen occasionally on all WB requesters. I raised a BZ for it and it was fixed (years ago). I have seen it again recently on my betasystems so perhaps it has crept back. I'll look up my old bug reports and see if I can find it.
BTW, the strange characters are in sets of four, and spell out "ABADCAFE" or "FEFECAFE" on the Sam 460. They are caused by a buffer over-run in the requester.

Re: FE and Copy/Paste crash
@ddni
yes all seems right. And it crashs too when booting the CD => Fonts in the CD should be OK, I presume.
@TonyW
Thank you very much to take a look at that.
And maybe a related problem again on my X1000.
1) Booting from the FE CD (or from my FE system)
2) RMB and select "New > New text file"
3) ContextMenu crashs !
4) If I ignore it, Notepad opens.
CrashLog from the boot from CD try :

Hoping that a fix still exists

Re: FE and Copy/Paste crash
I found my old bug report and I have an idea what could be causing it. I've reverted to an older version of one component, but I'll have to run it for a week at least to make sure, then another week with the new one back in.
Meanwhile, I've reopened the old bug report (BZ #6064).
Re the "New/New Text file..." crash: It would seem that Notepad is trying to open a file on the CD and failing, bu that should not make it crash.
Can you describe more clearly what you did? Start from where you clicked the LMB *before* you clicked the RMB and selected "New". From which menu?
