Re: FE and Copy/Paste crash

Post by tonyw »

It only happens to me very rarely, but try this:

Copy the version 53.18 of string.gadget from your old 4.1.6. It's in Classes/Gadgets/string.gadget. I suggest that you rename the new one to string.gadget-53.20, then copy the old one into the drawer, don't just overwrite it.

That way you'll be able to go back easily if you want to.

BTW, in your original post, what are you copying *from* ? And pasting *into* ?
cheers

Thank you,
Bur I just tried and no changes.
2 problems are still here after a warm reboot.

I copied the String.gadget 53.16 (30/05/2010) in ly FE partition in Classes/Gadgets/string.gadget

I'm copying simple text file from a partition to another one or from/to the same partition.

Snoopy has the same output for the same test:

Code: Select all

I can reproduce it with FE but i'm not getting a crash nor a requester.

For me it's a general c&p problem as NO files get PASTEd anymore, that is, copy and paste through ContextMenu is broken.

This is the snoopy log, i get exactly the same, but no crash nor requester

Hourrah ! I'm not alone :D

Concerning the crash or the requester, it happens rarely on my system.

@Raziel
and are you able to reproduce this other problem ?

1) RMB and select "New > New text file"
2) ContextMenu crashs !
3) If I ignore it, Notepad opens.

Thank you

I just installed OS4.1 FE on my X1000 yesterday and am still getting prefs etc. straightened out. However, I tested copy/paste with ContexMenus and it works for me. I didn't copy old ContextMenu settings to FE and I'm using the default English language settings that the installer set. Did you update anything (like settings) from your previous installation? If so, maybe you should test right after a fresh install without changing anything.

I have found some other problems though. KingCon doesn't work right with the new console.device. If I run Snoopy and run commands with Dopus4 buttons, strange things happen like my editor won't open files and the system will eventually crash or freeze.

Thank you for your test and reply,
Yes, I tested with a fresh install and, even more fresh, by booting and using Workbench from the DVD.
The same problem occurs.

@TonyW
Sorry to bump this thread but, just to know, is the copy/paste problem identified ?

Or do you need more elements ?
If yes, don't hesitate to ask me.

I can't reproduce the problem under normal circumstances but I was able to reproduce your problem if I am running Snoopy when I try a ContextMenu Cut/Paste test. Were you running Snoopy when you tested??
