In "printer preferences" gui you have a printer type FILE
Clicking on the driver options you get a requester File Printer options " notably with choice clipboard/File
I can't make anything happen when selecting this printer type and trying to print something from say Notepad.
Is there some doc about this printer type ?

Confirmed.
Not even the requester opens up.
Either a bug or not yet supported feature.
I remember this from 3.1 days, though, it should, if running normally, "print" the text from e.g. Notepad into the given file (I know it worked back then)

Printing to file seems to work with GraphicDump (SYS:Utilities/GraphicDump) and AmiPDF (SYS:Utilities/AmiPDF/AmiPDF) but not with NotePad.

The FILE printer type only works with graphics based printing, not with programs like NotePad that essentially save text directly to PRT:
