Usage of Roadshow for Internet Gateway Device access,
I'm in the odd situation of needing to put my sam440 into place as the primary Internet gateway device between a router on the 1st Ethernet port and wireless network dongle attached to the 2nd ethernet port.
Does Roadshow include bridging/NAT/Forwarding capabilities?
Or do I need to run Linux for those functions?
P.S. please don't bother with suggestions including the purchase of equipment as I have 0 budget with which to buy anything beyond 1-4 patch cables.

Re: Roadshow and bridging/routing
Is the second port actually usable? I'm sure the hardware works OK, but can we run two instances of the network stack?
Maybe you can define a second NetInterface, but I don't know. Never heard of anyone doing it before.

Re: Roadshow and bridging/routing
I would think multiple network interfaces wouldbe a given as Roadshow does inherit code from the BSD stack afaik.
I would be very surprised if multiple interfaces and routing didn't work.
As for running two network stacks... that seems extremely... weird to hear about even as a concept.
So the answer appears to be a resounding and qualified "no" then.
We are stuck with yet another monolithic client-only stack ?
Another "It would be nice to have" opportunity missed then IMHO.

Re: Roadshow and bridging/routing
Yes it's possible.
Once upon a time when I was a betatester (and OS4 was still 68k) with my good old A4000T, I set it up. I was online over an ISDN modem and connected my PC over ethernet with my Amiga which was the bridge to the internet.
It was described in SYS:Documentation/Roadshow somewhere (IP-Filter, ip-nat, or something like that) with documentation and some example scripts how to do it.

Re: Roadshow and bridging/routing
Check out Documentation/Roadshow/roadshow.doc, e.g. search for "7.1.4.1. Activating the IP packet filter".
(Haven't tried it myself; last time I did something similar was with Miami Deluxe on my old A1200/060 back around 2000 when I was on an ISDN bundled line).
Now, whether or not the Sam440 ethernet driver can exist in two separate instances, I don't remember, but that would be the next thing to check.
Best regards,
Niels

Re: Roadshow and bridging/routing
Thank you for the correction and references...
I have previously run both ethernet ports as separate networks but now need the bridge,
that solves the current questions...thank you
EDIT: trying to run two units of the sam440 ethernet driver seems to fail.
I will experiment further...
