OCHI Controller Task Unit constantly Guruing

Post by daveyw »

Hi all,

As of last week, I am now constantly getting a Guru Meditation on OCHI Controller Task Unit 0.

80000003
Task 0x16fe12190
Generated an error of type DSI (Data Storage Interrupt) on address 0x018186e8.

Just started last week, happened while I was browsing on OWB. Now happens every time I boot up. Just happened directly upon boot.

Any ideas? I think I've seen a similar error if I tried to copy a file larger than 4GB to a flash drive.

I'm also wondering if it's head related? It's starting off a humid summer; the CPU temp is usually 35 but has climbed as high as 39 this week. However, before I replaced the fan in my A1XE, it got alot higher.

That's a strange one. Have you changed anything else?

Can you finish booting successfully with a warm restart?

Can you ignore the DSI and continue successfully?

Can you boot a different partition OK?

Can you boot the Install CD OK?
cheers

I hope you'll forgive if I ask the obvious questions..

Have you tried with all USB devices removed?

Do you have a USB card reader? Can you unplug it as well?

How about with JUST the keyboard and mouse connected (assuming USB)

Curious as the A1XE has a UHCI controller or do you have a USB card of somekind?

Have you perhaps recently edited your kickstart or reverted to an old one?

All normal operations are OK. If I kill the session, it locks up. Otherwise, I just leave the guru window open and carry on. But I haven't eied copying to USB.

I have had two occassions recently where boot never progresses past boot screen, but I couldn't see what the problem was.

I have a USB card, not using the on-board USB. It's internal port is connected to the case's front USB port, although nothing is plugged in. That was the last change I made to the hardware set-up, probably early this year. No changes to kick layout.

Currently the only USB device connected is a printer. Mouse & keyboard both PS/2.

I'll try:
Booting off CD
Disconnecting the printer and booting.
Edit the kicklayout to comment ochi out.

Hmm, removing my external powered hub seems to have solved the problem.

I was beginning to feel stupid for suggesting that you unplug everything.
I will STILL feel stupid, but I'll have to find something else to blame it on.

Even on my X1000, some hubs work great, some are unusable.
Luckily they are cheap enough to just try some until you find a good one.
