HDR for AmigaOS?

This might be an odd question, but seeing that HDR and 4k are becoming de facto standard today, it's probably natural to ask the question if these things will be supported in AmigaOS? At least HDR should be possible when using the latest HDMI standard, which is HDMI 2.0a. It could vastly improve the visual look for the Amiga. Could this be done?

I don't think it's clear if there is the HDR standard; just as it was unclear if BluRay or HDDVD was the standard for digital movies or if VHS or Beta was the standard for analog movie tapes. At this point, I don't know what you expect to see in HDR on an Amiga computer screen. Consumer cameras can't even produce HDR images except by multiple exposures that are combined into a single image with software; which only works well if there is no camera movement or subject movement at all. I'm not sure if there is any Amiga software that can load, display or save HDR images in any HDR image file formats. Unless someone with more knowledge on the subject cares to comment, I'm not sure we need any HDR capability at this point.

I don't see why 4K isn't possible, but doubt that some current NG hardware has the CPU power and memory to support it.

At least SView5 has HDR support.

I think the "HDR" in SView5 is the old "HDR Radience" format which I don't believe is the same as the recent "Ultra HDR" standard for television. Even if you have an HDR capable graphics card and monitor, I don't know if the OS4 system graphics display software can handle HDR. Probably only someone like Hans or BroadBlues can answer that.

Don't know much about the HD Ultra spec apart from what I just googled, but clearly we don't suport HDR displays art present (do any OSes? The spec is aimed at dedicated TVs and players as far as I xcan see).

In terms of generating HDR contens, blender renders in 24bits per channel / floating point and can save out that in several formats and SketchBlock also works in that level, but only saves to ist own format for the moment.

There is a EXR display program on os4depot, which allows display of HDR conetent by setting the "exposure" and other parameters to allow display on normal 24bit screens.

We can only just display 1080p video so lets not fantaise about displaying 4k Ultra HD.

That article just points out the confusion in HDR standards. On this page they describe several HDR
formats:

On this page is an announcement of yet another proposed HDR standard for TV:

As Andy pointed out, worrying about HDR on an Amiga is a waste of time for now.

Any standard that the American industry adopts is sure to be limited by DRM issues so that we could not possibly afford to pay for the licences.

The nice thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from.
