Logitech mice and keyboards

Post by Nicsoft »

Will the USB-drivers be updated regarding problems with Logitech mice and keyboards?
Quite often the mouse (and sometimes also the keyboard) freezes on my system (Sam460ex), after AmigaOS 4.1 FE has loaded... So I don't think it's U-boot related (or...)?
I have to wait a while (using the mouse) after starting OWB v1.23 for example. If I use the mouse when it's loading the start-page, the mouse freezes! If I let it load the start-page first, then the mouse don't freeze...

An answer from "the Hyperion guys" would be very welcome (in this case to)..!

I don't know if/when a driver fix will be made available. There are hundreds of Logitech mice in existence and we can't possibly test all of them.

I haven't had any trouble with this mouse:

@Nicsoft

It seems to be a known problem of SAM with OS4 ("many" users have this problem)

As you have zTools, did you try to use SysMon_USBRecycle at startup ?
It was made specifically to recycle the USB stack at startup to avoid SAM USB lockup. you could give it a try, it can't be worst :D

Do USB mice differ that much, even from the same maker. Using Windows or Linux there seems to be "generic" drivers..?

No. I'll give that a try... Many thanks for that suggestion! :-)

The main problem here is U-Boot and the way it initialises the USB ports. All my machines using U-Boot suffer the same problem (all except the Sam 440-flex).

I never have a problem with USB mouses or keyboards connected to the Sam 440-flex (U-Boot) or the X-1000 (CFE), but all the other machines, even swapping mouses and keyboards around.

I don't know why it works OK on the Sam 440-flex, but perhaps it has a different USB stack? It initialises USB and boots much more quickly than any other NG machine.
cheers

Regarding "SysMon_USBRecycle"... My "Alzheimer Light" made me forget that I did try that once before!

One problem is (probably) my SSD-Disk. SysMon_USBRecycle gives me the following message:

MassStorage USB device (Ultra Fast Media) detected.
USB recycle cancelled to avoid a system freeze.
Comment REQUESTER ToolType to remove this requester.

And I'm not an expert to interpret the usb.log in RAM:T/ to "configure" SysMon_USBRecycle...

Ah yes, I don't know why but USBRecycle freezes the system when a massstorage device is found.

Sorry, you will have to wait for an hypothetical OS4 fix...
Really, really, really sorry for you

Usb stack cannot not be restarted whilt a usb device is still active, and usb-massstorage cannot be stopped.....

thank you for the explanation

Nicsoft,
To use SysMon_USBRecycle, a SAM460 user fixed that by removing the cf card on his motherboard.

OK. But the "original" problem is that AmigaOS 4.1 FE needs a "more stable usb stack", correct me if I'm wrong..?
