Support EXT2/3 and NTFS

Postby Ghillo » Sat Apr 14, 2012 9:43 pm

I installed the archive from Aminet EXT2FileSystem, with which you can 'read and write Linux partitions in the EXT2 / 3.
It would be a great thing with this file system to NTFS, are directly supported from AmigaOS, for a more 'easy exchange of data between different systems.
And 'provided an integrated development AmigaOS this?

There is similar 2009 NTFS driver for AmigaOS 3.x that I haven`t tested
http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/ntfs_0.9

It`s a read only and can`t say how reliable it is.

Sadly, even NTFS support for mass media and hard drives would be 2012 essential,
it`s not mentioned amongst promised AmigaOS features.

Hope they will surprise us :-)

Marek seems to be MorphOS user

But seems to be only one working on NTFS and EXT2 drivers

There was some mention by Steve Solie about plans for a new file system framework that would make it easier to add new file systems to Amiga OS.
I think that he mentioned it at AmiWest last year.
Sam440ep-Flex 800Mhz ,1GB.Radeon HD6670 lowprofile via PCI to PCIe Adaper.
Sam460ex 1.15Ghz, 2GB.Radeon HD6670 . Apex TM-302-3 Case

Yes and I think it is coming along nicely. The idea is to make it much simpler to port file systems from other platforms. Much of the functionality that was traditionally duplicated in each Amiga file system has been hoisted up into DOS as well. Stay tuned.

One most observe that e.g, MorphOS has quite nice NTFS support for long time and that this and EXT4 support is a must.
Users that now want to exchange files with other computers have to use FAT32 (Ok for USB but not for removable HDD)
and even those who use Linux and OS4 have to make a intermediate partition to exchange files.

EXT4 and NTFS read and write should have high priority as much as printing systems.

One of those things that would really make life easier And with those two file system support that framework for porting file\systems
is almost not needed, even it is looking tio the future,

Don't bother trying to manipulate priorities by pointing out some unrelated OS has this or that feature. It won't work.
