I was trying the SYS:System/Help tool. When the program comes up, there is nothing in the right pane even when I click on different items in the list on the left. I only have seen this on the classic. My SAM440ep is okay.
Also, using the arexx script from the CLI, it is working as well.

Re: SYS:System/Help program Issue
The program expects to find its doc files in SYS:Locale/Help/english/Shell/. Check if they are there on your Classic machine.my_pc_is_amiga wrote:I was trying the SYS:System/Help tool. The ARexx script uses the same files, but finds them via the path HELP:english/Shell/. Check if your HELP: assign is pointing to the path SYS:Locale/Help.Also, using the arexx script from the CLI, it is working as well.

Yes I have the #?.hep files in that path. The HELP: assign is okay also. The version of system/help is "Help 53.5 (12/18/2009)"

Strange. Try running Snoopy to see what the program tries to access when you select a help page (or at the start). Maybe that gives a clue.my_pc_is_amiga wrote:Yes I have the #?.hep files in that path. The HELP: assign is okay also. The version of system/help is "Help 53.5 (12/18/2009)"

Re: SYS:System/Help program Issue
Once "Help" opens, I run into other problems with workbench. I can't execute any item in the workbench menu or launch any other programs. I can still double click on drawers etc...but that is about all.
Once I ran Snoopy before "Help" I was able to see the following 2 "Fails" for ramlib
FindResident function fails for texteditor.gadget
Lock function fails for LIBS:gadgets/texteditor.gadget
On my SAM440, where it works I don't see these 2 things (I don't see either "fail" or "okay") -- i.e. it doens't show any ramlib in the log and only "help". And it shows Openlibrary calls that go through okay for the "Help".

Re: SYS:System/Help program Issue
What is the revision of the AmigaOS installation on this computer? Can you remember the steps you took to create it and what is the history of updates?
I'm just wondering if during the course of this installations life something unexpected has occured, it might be just a s easy to re-install AmigaOS.
It generally isn't that difficult to update the new installation with your custom software and settings

Re: SYS:System/Help program Issue
I did a clean install about 1 week ago and started with the OS4.1 Update 2 CD for the classic (I have a A4000T). I then updated it with 3,4,5,and 6 updates. And then updated the system compenents with Amiupdate... I have SDK and the posiden stack installed for my denab card. Other than not nothing else has been installed in my sys:
Is this not reproducible on the classic?

Re: SYS:System/Help program Issue
But then you should afterwards see a line with an OK lock on CLASSES:gadgets/texteditor.gadget.my_pc_is_amiga wrote:Once I ran Snoopy before "Help" I was able to see the following 2 "Fails" for ramlib

Don't you see that line? If you do, no problem. It's just searching in several different places before finding the gadget (in the correct path for gadget classes).
Best regards,
Niels

Re: SYS:System/Help program Issue
I didn't see any OK with the texteditor.gadget. But now I can't even repeat that same sequence in snoopy. I now see in snoopy:
WBL o.k. = Lock("Help",SHARED)
WBL o.k. = Examine("Help")
ENV/env-handler 52.2 FAIL = Lock("ENVARC:ELF.LazyBinding",SHARED)
I have tried now several times after rebooting machine each time and I see the same thing over and over.
