It appears that the classic versions of OS4 can't play sounds using DataTypes. According to one person who checked for me, the problem is on 4.0, 4.1 & 4.1FE.
Double-click on any of the sounds in SYS:Prefs/Presets/Sounds in DOpus4, or try to play them with MultiView, and nothing happens. AHI provides no debug output (checked with Sashimi).

Any details about sound card / AHI driver being used?

No sound card, Paula:Hifi 14 bit stereo ++.
Test sound in AHI prefs works.
hirasawa.wav works when played via SoundPlayer, but not in Multiview.
mp3 playback via mpega.datatype works in Multiview, but it has its own AHI replay routine, it does not use sound.datatype.
So it narrows to sound.datatype, not any subclass nor AHI.

I was doing this under WinUAE, so I have tried ES1370 (sb128 device on OS4Depot) and Paula. I didn't and haven't yet tried an mp3, but it looks like thomasrapp has tracked it down to sound.datatype.
