A compatible SoundCard for AmigaOS 4.1 and OS 3.9

Post by nubechecorre »

Could anyone tell me, please, a compatible card with both Amiga OS 4.1 and Amiga OS 3.9? I already checked Darren's Compatibilty list and it was usefull to find a network card for both the AmigaOSes but about the sound card it doesn't tell if it works also under Amiga OS 3.9..

Any hint? ^_^

Your SoundBlaster PCI 128 should work on both OS.

Yes and No.. It is fully supported and works under Amiga OS 3.9 but under Amiga OS 4.1 it is a workaround to make it work but all the sound is processed trough the Paula Device and the quality is not like the SoundBlaster PCI.. so if there is a working sound board on both system i would prefer... btw thanks for replying ^_^

The Concierto addon board for PicassoIV is reported to work in OS4.x if perchance you have that. However, I initially had problems on how to get it working, and have not yet carried out the instructions I later received on getting it working. That will be done in due course. PM me if you would like to get me to hurry up. :)

I did not ask if it was in a similar vein to the SB PCI 128 as it also has an audio mixer to pass through the native Paula sound, but I hope it should produce 16 bit sound.

The soundblaster 128 is the only possibility with that work-around on my website, unless you have a Deneb and then you could use a USB sound card on both OS 3.9 and 4.1.

Most of the time I just use Paula, though. With good speakers she sounds great and uses less CPU than other solutions.

Is there any specific make/model you would recommend for USB? I plan to use internal port.

I have a Turtle Beach "Amigo II" that was inexpensive, sounds good (they used to compete with Creative), is plug-and-play with Deneb/Poseidon, and has a name that near "Amiga." It has audio out and mic in with a glowing blue LED. I don't see why it can't be used internally, although it is a dongle.
