All Uboot versions you tried, showed same msg/error?
Maybe the card is incompatible on A1. visit http://www.intuitionbase.com/comphard.php?category=7 maybe it helps
Better question is are there any SCSI cards supported under OS 4?

Adaptec AHA- 2930CU or 39160 by Any chance?

There's a driver for LSI53C8XX chipsets (IIRC; check your Kickstart dir/Kicklayout, I'm not at home right now). I have been using a SCSI card with that driver in my A1 XE a couple of years ago, among other things to transfer the contents of my old ZIP disks to HD, Worked fine, also with my old SCSI and SCSI UW hard drives, and my slide scanner too, BTW.

I forget the name of the card, but I can check it in about a week if you need it.

AFAIR, it was not possible to get developer info reasonably for Adaptec gear in general, so no.
