USB & AmigaOS

Post by truman.burbank »

The problem is:
- USB device detection
- the hanging for file operations on a pendrive
- even with memory settings for the USB (Prefs) after reset
I often have a message when you insert a pendrive: "Babble detected on USB unit 1! This USB controller will be reset!"

My configuration: AmigaOne XE without "fix", AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4.
AmigaOne 500, 2 GB RAM, RadeonHD 7750, AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition

One of the "fixes" for the A1-XE is to add the USB terminating resistors that were omitted. They can be added externally or soldered onto the board by anyone that can use a soldering iron.

If you have your A1-XE modified to add the terminators:

1. USB device detection will be fixed.
2. "Hanging" for file ops probably won't change. Can't explain that one.
3. "Babble detected" messages will probably disappear also.

It's worth it to have it fixed (or fix it yourself if you know how).

The other "fix" for the A1-XE is for the on-board IDE DMA. That fix is not worth doing, it has unwanted side effects and you are better off installing a SATA card anyway. You can get a 4-port sii3114 SATA card for only a few dollars.
cheers

What is the side effect of DMA fix that you are talking about?

You can´t use a PCI (HD) gfx card together with USB and/or onboard LAN.

Of course that is just me, but it makes me wish to reverse that "fix"

And without this fix it runs with PCI-HD-Cards? O_o

Some guys on the (now shut down) "open" Radeon HD gfx driver ml claimed so, yes

So, in not-modified A1-XE USB works as it wants - literally, in different ways at different update.
I considered USB on the bracket with the amendment:
USB-Fix AmigaOne XE von McFly - http://www.bboah-works.de/projektfaq/in ... artlang=de
that acts as a "fix" on the main board without interfering with it - resistors (12 ohms 8p.) are on the board at the same USB sockets.
However, it is still USB 1.1.

Ultimately decided on card with USB ports on the NEC chip. It works smoothly, no problems
