a1g3se, play problem with web radios

Post by satiropan »

hello, I'm here again
firts my set up, just to understand the basis:
A1G3SE, 2GB ram (2 x 1GB, registered HP signed modules)
Radeon 9200 SE 128MB
SiI3114, 160GB HD as drive 0, DVD/RW as drive 2, both in PIO mode
RTL 8029 lan
Muse 5.1 audo

I open Tunenet, I open a web radio with its proper address, I get the sound, but after sometime, half an hour, an hour or few minutes, Tunenet hangs and music stops.
I thought it was a problem of lan and internet connection, but the internet connection still works, in fact, after Tunenet hangs, I can still open OWB and browse sites regularly.
So I am thinking now of an AHI driver problem, since the webradio interrupions happen also when I use MPlayer
I have also a SB live! that works, higher sound quality than the Muse, but it hangs the entire system after few minutes, with a infinite high frequency whistle, even if I just play a mp3. So I must stay with the Muse
Any suggestion?
thanx and regards

Tunenet is quite old now and known for bugs that can't be fixed because the author is missing

I'd suggest using AmigaAmp

Webradio can be accessed with opening a simple file, looking like this:

Code: Select all

[playlist]

NumberOfEntries=1

File1=http://bluefm.net/listen.pls
Title1=Server #1 (((( Blue FM -- Easy Listening Instrumental )))
Length1=-1

Version=2
Simply change the web address and description
Save it somewhere and call it "YourRadio.pls"

Works like a charm here, gets updates and you can at least use it to check if the error is on TuneNets side or not :-)

Here TN doesn't hang as long as I do not open the tab with the volume control, VU-meter etc. It does stop occasionally streaming MP3, but then I can press play again. The frequency of that sudden stop depends on the "station" (server).

I would add some more information on my problem
I have found out that's more a problem of audio driver since it happens with every music player, tunenet, mplayer, amigaamp
the problem is that whether I play web radios or on disk mp3s, after some time, generally 10 minutes, the playing stops and the playing program feezes.
I f I try to open another audio program, there is no audio output, but the Amiga still works, as I can browse internet, copy files, etrc.
I have tried different sound cards, but I get the same result with every one
here is a list of all the sound chips I have tested
CS4281, good audio
ES1373, bad audio
CT5880, bad audio
CMI8738, good audio
EMU10K1 best audio
bad audio means there is some digital noise some time recurrently during playback
all these cards have the same problem as above, the only difference is that the freeze is together with a high frequency whistle with emu10k1, ct5880 and es1373, while with the others is just silence

seems I have found the problem
It could have been a faulty 1GB dimm module.
in fact I started to have boot problems (couldn't find some kickstart modules), and growing up to no boot at all
I tested the ram modules and I found that one was creating the problem
I put it aside and now, with only 1GB, the A1G3SE works fine, even the audio problem seems gone :)
