I finally got a sii 3512 pci card and installed it with a sata 500g hard drive.
card and drive working, system sees them installed drive with slb with swap and a bootable partition format-ed fine,
copied system files from ide drive...
detached ide and no boot...tried several things... sigh
What did I do wrong?

Re: finally install sii 3512...works but won't boot
Does uboot support that Sata controller? E.g. can you see the controller in uboot?
If so, did you update the uboot settings to boot from the sata controller?
To rule out RDB/FS/bootflags issues, load the kickstart from IDE and then go to the Early Startup Menu by holding Scroll Lock or both mouse buttons when the kickstart is loaded and the screen blinks off/on. You should see your sata partition and be able to select it as the boot device otherwise it's not setup right and needs adjusting in mediatoolbox.

Re: finally install sii 3512...works but won't boot- correct
Thanks AlexC!
I didn't do wrong. It (the SYBA sil 3512 that I bought) was just incompatible with uboot!
It fooled me as it worked after workbench loaded, it did in fact work in media toolbox.
I was even able to get to format and copy on the workbench. It just didn't boot.
After reading your post, I went out and bought a different sil card (a Rosewill sil 3114),
which was also uboot non-compatible.
So, I just got a siig ata133 card. uboot saw it and is bootable!
so everything is working!
Thanks
