autostart should be set to yes instead of "on" (at least that's what i got on my XE)

Check if you got bootmethod=boota and you should be ready to go...

So, added "serial" at the end of bootargs in the uboot settings. What debug level is recommended? with 0, i only saw the ide device list, so I changed to 1 and this is the only output I got:

5 is the default and should be sufficient.

iirc you can go upto 20, which will print every fart the hardware does :-)

Edit: Your HDD and CD are properly detected
The "bailing out" parts mean there were no other ide chips (sil and such) detected and being skipped

There is nothing at all after that on the serial?

I changed the debuglevel to 20 and also changed the pci_irqa to something else because it had the same value as pci_irqc.

The log is here:
http://pastebin.com/paKGcBUQ

The last line shows that LoadWB is the last thing called (the DH0 partition is named AmigaOS4.0:) and then nothing.

Any ideas?

thanks!

@Themambomam

Your log doesn't looks like log from debug kernel, but rather than log from user's kernel. All those "debug level" works fully (i mean to how all kind of info) only when you on debug kernel, not on user kernel. And when you will have debug level set to 20, your system boot will be many minutes, just because of thousands lines of output. And level 5 will be more than enough, just you should be on debug one, not on user one if you want to know all possible details.

So, how do I get the debug kernel then?

Thanks!

I don't think he should mess with debug vs normal kernel right now...he's not even reaching workbench.

@themamboman

I just pulled out my OS4.0 CD...you DID read the OS4 Install guide, didn't you? (OS4-InstallGuide.html)
Do you maybe have a possibility to show it on a second computer and let the guide...errm, guide you through the installation process?
There's a slight chance that you are missing something completely easy no one of us thinks about.

Plus there's nice instruction to the UBoot menu, which might make things easier for all of us

Is that the same as this webpage?

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/c.moppett/
I did follow that. I will look again though in case I missed something. About to change the cables and move the HDD to the other internal IDE header as master instead of slave too.

Thanks!

Yup, thats it...

Too bad you are having such a hard time running OS4...keep on

Kernel is the first piece of code which loads by bootloader , so does not matter if he reach wb or not, debug kernel can be used to have more info just from very first bytes of loading. Its just you suggest to increase debug levels, and i says that it make no big sense to play with debug levels on user kernel : it will show almost nothing, while debug one will throw all kind of info.

Through its all seems just bad install in end, and better to not worry with kernels and debug levels then at all.
