Do you have checked your battery?
Perhaps your battery is empty and this is the reason why your aone is not booting anymore.

It's booting, just off CD. I replaced the battery last year.

Well, the drive is back. I bought a new HD (2TB Western Digital Green) and a couple of new SATA cables with clips.

Was able to boot off the "old" Seagate drive, again. Annoyingly, the WD which I plugged into port 1 is not showing up. I wonder if it can only see two ports at a time on the 3114? So only the Segate HDD and the DVD Drive are visible? Or mayb

Or perhaps my cabling is wrong? I had to unplug almost everything. I'll check it on the weekend.

Pretty sure there's something wrong with the Seagate. There's a noticeable lag when the slashscreen disappears and WB comes up - the background loads fractionally later and the boot-up tune struggles.

Hi everybody,

Unfortunately, I'm still having problems.

I still occassionally get the same problem booting up.

If I do boot up, then, envitably, I have a problem whereby the HDD activity led comes on, and the machine does nothing. If I'm lucky, this will just freeze the machine for about 5 seconds. If not, it keeps going and I have to reset.

I don't think it's the hard drive. I've replaced it with a Western Digital and I'm still having problems. I guess it could be the SATA card?

Has anyone else encountered anything like this before?

Well, the latest in my on-going saga in why not to bother with SATA.

One of my partitions has become unwriteable.

I get a prompt: XDH4 has a blockid error in block 9668.
Expected was blockid 0x42544D50
but the block says it is blockid 0x4E444320

I then get a message telling me to fix the error.

Any idea how? It's SFS/02. I guess I have no choice but to reformat?

Get the SmartFileSystem package.

There's a SFSSalv program in the package...read through the readme (as it was many moons ago that i used it) and try to recover your partition.

Don't format it yet

Unfortunately, SFSSalv responds with "Need V 31 of gtlayout.library"

Is it WB 3.x only?

gtlayout is not part of AmigaOS4...just get the package here, unpack, browse into libs, rename the .020 library to gtlayout.library, set an assign or copy it to libs and start SFSSalv...just tried, it works

edit: no, it doesn't :-(
Seems the updated sfs isn't compatible with those old programs anymore
sfscheck gives me a checksum error on perfectly fine hdds

Yes, I've seen SFSCheck give some very odd results on OS4 before, and concluded it had not been updated. Likewise SetCache.
