Well I have a working system right now and only python and TimberWolf remain "broken" at all (I even copied all the Shared Objects from the complete update set installation as well)
Glad its better, the way I would do it is to go all the way up to update 4, then archiving clean install so anytime you could return by simple format and copy files.
Python and TW should work well with that update.
that is effectively what I have done without making the archive,

I would like to get python and TimberWolf working as well for a complete system install

--EDIT--
Updated TuneNet and that is still not 100% when given directories instead of files

I also lost data as none of the utf8 or iso-2022-jp filenames survived

any ideas for settings that would let me use utf-8 would be very appreciated

From my phone ---

Update 5 has resolved my TimberWolf issues in that it is not simply crashing when started
Just waiting for it to load now

Testing python ... it's also resolved

now I have No issues with anything OS related

Sounds like your problems may have been with the Assigns and path commands in Startup-Sequence.
Update 5 replaces the old Startup-Sequence.

If it was that easy then the *unchanged* Startup Sequence on my custom install would have retained the problem and TimberWolf would still be crashing at launch

but after leaving it for an hour it had hung at the second step of the progress bar in the banner window

I am testing on both factory default and customised installs reporting errors that show on both and dealing with anything else myself

No more issues... fully functional... whatever update 5 included.... made things better

Now for roadtesting Timberwolf...

Just make sure you are online first as roadshow settings will affect TimberWolf to hang

Well I now have TimberWolf functional AND online...

It was due to a misconfiguration of the network stack (active network settings and no actual connection...)

This is also my first active post to these boards with my sam440flex instead of the Android phone...

Update #6 is installed along with AmiUpdate provided archives...

the only problems I now face are those of my own programming efforts...

I have also started adding Firefox plugins to my TimberWolf install

"Moji" and "Rikaichan" both work so far...along with AdBlock+ and Ghostery

"BetterPrivacy" appears to kill TimberWolf with an ISI at launch
