Radeon driver v2.7 and R7 250E: no HDMI and no DVI output

Post by virgola »

Hi all,
I am currently unable to boot AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition on my Sam460 using either HDMI or the DVI port after replacing the Radeon HD 4650 with a Radeon R7 250E single slot and low profile.
All is working fine using the VGA port.
The installed Radeon HD driver is the latest v2.7, that was previously working fine with the Radeon HD 4650.

When using HDMI or DVI, U-Boot starts as usual, but after loading all kernel modules, the screen become black and the HD does not load anything.
I do not reach the point of seeing the Amiga boot logo. Forcing a software reset via keyboard has no effect.

When booting Xubuntu 15.04 from another partition, the Radeon R7 card works fine (no visual artefacts) using all ports (VGA, HDMI and DVI), so I don't think it is an hardware issue.
The chip on the video card is (output obtained using the command "lspci | grep VGA"):
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cape Verde PRO [Radeon HD 7750 / R7 250E]

I bought the R7 250E card as it was reported working on Amiga.org at http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=69047
Owner: Imagodespira
Card: Club3D R7 250E (a rebranded HD7750, low Profile)
Vendor: http://www.reichelt.de/?ACTION=3&ARTI ... ROVID=2773&psuma=Geizhals
Manufacturer: http://www.club-3d.com/isotope/c/cgax-r7252l_web.pdf

I bought the card "CLUB3D Radeon R7 250 Low Profile" from Amazon
http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B0000C0SPQ

My Sam460 config is
2GB RAM
PCI Silicon Image SiI 3512 with attached a SATA HD 2.5' and a SATA CD-ROM
PCI-E 1x Envy24HT
Monitor HP Envy beatsaudio

A serial log would be very helpful...seems like something is crashing while the WB comes up

@virgola

If you wait, do you hear the boot sound in the background? Like Raziel said, a debug log would be useful (you may need to use the debug version to get useful info).

I also recommend comparing notes with imagodespira. Of interest are the exact graphics card model (including the SKU#), your UBoot versions, and which version of AmigaOS 4 you are using.

EDIT: Also compare the PCIGraphics.card version. IIRC, older versions PCIGraphics.card also tries to copy the ROM, and fails. This can cause trouble later on.

Debug log: I will be able to obtain a serial cable for debug next week. Meanwhile, is it possible to grab the kernel without a serial cable?
What do you mean by saying "you may need to use the debug version to get useful info"?

No sound after all modules are loaded. Nothing, the Sam460 just hung. No HDD loading.

SKU: How can I obtain it?
AmigaOS version: AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition
U-Boot version: 2010.06.05 (Apr 14 2011 - 10:54:55)
PCIGraphic.card: version 53.9 (20 Jul 2014)
RadeonHD.chip: version 2.7 (7 Feb 2015)

These are the label on the card:
S/N: BG1403019292
EAN: CGAX-R7252L
UPC: 8 54365 00554 1

Here's a picture of the card backplate

You can't save the debug log without a serial cable if the system locks up. That's because you won't be able to run dumpdebugbuffer (to save the log) if the machine has frozen.
virgola wrote:What do you mean by saying "you may need to use the debug version to get useful info"?
There's a debug version of the driver. The file is RadeonHD.chip.debug, but you do need to make sure that it's the same version as your RadeonHD.chip driver (I'm not sure if that one gets automatically updated or not).

Okay, so it's a hard lockup.
virgola wrote:SKU: How can I obtain it?
It's usually on the box, although the EAN/UPC should be unique too. So, you could use that for comparison.

Thanks, but that info doesn't help track down what's going wrong.

The installed "RadeonHD.chip.debug" is v1.2 (21 Aug 2014), so no, it does not get updated using AmiUpdate.
How can I obtain the latest version?

@SOFISTISOFTWARE
I have tried to attach another monitor (BENQ FP222WH) using DVI, HDMI and VGA and the result it is the same.
Next message from me will provide the serial log debug.
