Mouse scrolling Amiga Os4.1fe

Post by lozspd4 »

Hello All
im using the newest bois for the sam from Acube plus Os4.1fe but i can only scroll web sites by pressing the scroll wheel down and move the mouse physically up and down. Is there a setting that allows me to just scroll by turning the mouse wheel up and down with out pressing the wheel.

Ive tryed everything from amigaone mouse to logitech with no luck, it did not work also before the update thats why i bought it, as it was suppossed to have better usb support, but know Laser mice dont work properly either. Im Using OWB i dont no if that is the problem.

many thanks in advance

The BIOS (U-Boot) has nothing to do with mouse operations once OS4 is booted, OS4 has its own USB drivers which take over from anything that U-Boot has. Once OS4 is running, U-Boot and its BIOS code is completely disconnected.

Does your scrol wheel work OK when you open a document in Notepad? Or in the Shell if you have text scrolled off the page?

If so, there is nothing wrong with your mouse or its support. If it can't do simple scroll jobs like those I described, there is something wrong.

Hi All
OK ive found the problem its with the os, im restarting the stack in startup-sequence using the hack in os4depot command USBCtrl START and now the mouse scrolls and my usb joystick is found again so its proberly a small bug.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction to sort this problem out.

I don't know which hack you are referring to.

The default Startup-Sequence installed by OS 4.1 Final Edition does contain a line with "USBCtrl START" (right after the IPrefs line), so that is how it should officially work.

And for me, that does result in a correctly working mouse wheel.

There's a lesson here for everyone:

If you are having problems with something that used to work but now does not, take out all the third-party add-ons and retest with a "standard" system. If it works again, then you can start testing to find out which add-on caused the problem.
Best of all: Keep another small partition (1 or 2 GB is enough) with a "clean" system install on it (no added libs, no added fonts, just clean out-of-the-box. You can always go back and boot that system if you have problems with your main system.

Hi All
Im not quiet sure what happened but the USBCtrl Start wasnt in the Startup sequence after Iprefs so i added it in thought it was a hack but proberly not, USBRecycle works Perfect and have no Problems in the Os with usb devices, how ever when going into early Startup menu some mice dont work properly, but do work when Os is loaded.

But that doesnt bother me now as i rarely use early Startup menu. But Thanks anyway for your help. silly question really i just needed some help to what direction i should look.

Just FYO the reason why some mice misbehave in early starttup is becuase the the bootmouse driver is cut down version of the hid driver. Some mice don't support the boot mouse rotocal as well as they should, and some just require extra stuff that's in the full driver.

When USBStart is called the bootmouse driver gives way to the full hid.usbfd and stuff like mousewheel etc. is enabled
