No Early Startup Menu with a wireless mouse

Post by AmiSpaTra »

SAM440ep-Flex, AmigaOS 4.1.3 and Logitech Anywhere MX wireless mouse > NO Early Startup Menu.

With a NO wireless mouse > The Early Startup Menu appears.
With a wireless mouse and previous AmigaOS 4.1.2 > The ESM appeared, but I couldn't move the pointer correctly (horizontally, I think).

Adding hid.usfbd in the Kicklayout don't fix it, however this broke the key shortcuts for the Workbench and applications (don't work them).

Removing the boot#?.kmod (with hid.usfbd added) don't fix the trouble.

Hints? But please, change the mouse isn't a real solution :D

Replacing the mouse is cheaper than replacing your computer :-) I've always had issues with activating the "Early Startup Menu" with a USB mouse with my µA1 and SAM. In fact, I've gotten accustomed to using the Help (Scroll Lock) key on the keybaord to activate early startup. If all else fails you can try that too; just hold down the Help key like you would the mouse buttons. That being said, I have the reverse problem with my mice (mouses?). The wireless mouse brings up the early startup by holding down both mouse buttons but my wired mouse (PS2 mouse with USB adapter) does not. However, I recently discovered that if I click and release one or both of the wired mouse buttons immediately after the screen goes blank when rebooting and then hold both buttons down, the "Early Startup Menu" will appear as expected. Try my "click&release then click&hold" with your wireless mouse to see if that works.

I find wireless mice on the Sam horrible.
What works best for me is if I plug the USB wireless receiver into one of these

then plug the PS/2 connector into one of these

http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid ... S2&cat=MOU

double conversion but It works for me,
Works well for regular usb mice too and seems to stop jerky movement for wireless mice.
May also work with Early Startup Menu for some wireless mice too (Logitech trackman Wheel tested ok)

I have a 440ep and wireless mouse and keyboard.

You need BootM&K in Kicklayout active to get the Early Start. Not
the HID driver.

Try rapidly tapping on the Scroll Lock key or rapidly clicking
both mouse buttons near the end of the loading sequence. Most
wireless M&K tend to miss the first keypress/click.

When the USB stack starts booting, BootM&K are replaced with HID.

Also my M&K work best in one of my front ports, but then again I
have a 440ep. Give it a try.
