Hi all,
I'm having some problems regarding my sam460 amd USB 2.
My keyboard and mouse (doesnt matter wether it is a USB, PS2 via a convertor, wireless or with a cord or whatever,I tried several solutions) work fine with update 2, but cease tp function with update 3 / 4.
I commented out the ehci part, then the mouse/kb work fine, but ofcourse USB 2 is gone.
Also I tried to comment out the bootmouse/kb but that doest help.
Please advice what to do... I understood that it should work as several sam owners dont have any problems at all.
Thank you.

Re: USB mouse/kb troubles on sam460
Have you been able to try another PSU or more load as suggested by mx3 on AmigaWorld ?
mx3 wrote: Most of the USB related problem on Sam460ex boards are due a not good enough PSU, the board drain very low power and not all PSU can supply a stable voltage with such a little load. If you happen to have another PSU, please try with it, or in alternative, attach some more load to the PSU, such as another HD or similar device.

Re: USB mouse/kb troubles on sam460
No, I havent tried that yet, I need to try and find one first.
I still have difficulty believing that the only thing having troubles with a 'unstable at low power comsumption PSU' is the USB 2 port.
But anyway, I will try that.
How much load do I need to try to get enough power consumption with my current PSU ?
I already have a 460 GFX card, a sii3114 SATA card, a large HD, a DVDRW and a large USB external HD (without external power suply, it draws all power from the USB bus)
Thanks,
Martin
ps, the reason I'm posting here is that people keep telling me to post my sam troubles at this forum, as more sam users and developers are vistiting and monitoring this forums. Ans not that I dont believe or anything anyone at AW, everyone there is very helpfull

With only your M&Kbd plugged in at boot, could you post your RAM:T/usb.log here.
Use the 'hidden' function in the reply section and just paste between the brackets.

Re: USB mouse/kb troubles on sam460
As a test try unplugging all USB2 type stuff, enable ehci, cold boot, then plug in
memory/USB2 type stuff. I don't think the ehci driver likes (Direct Access) things
on initial boot.?????
Also, just to get this puppy walking, you might wish to try SFS00 on all your
partitions and keep them under 10G. More and larger can be added later
once the wrinkles are ironed out. That way, if it is a large partition size that
is causing problems, or JXFS then you would know for sure.

Re: USB mouse/kb troubles on sam460
So booting without kb/mouse atached, and when fully booted plug them in ?
I've booted from update 2 CD, and copying/mving files seems fine now...
Shall I try and get a USB log file with EHCI enabled ?
Must put a copy command in userstartup though, to copy the log file to HD to be able to acces it later....
Thanks,

Yes, enable EHCI and cold boot with nothing plugged in.
Then plugin M&Kbd and look at USB log. It should only be a little longer then the
one you posted here.
Try moving files around the HD, DVD etc.
Then plug some mem stick or something that uses USB2 EHCI and see if the file
copying goes to hell.
Meanwhile I will write up a few observations about my 440ep and ehci.
P.S. If you highlight an area of your reply and click the 'hidden' button at the top
it won't fill the displayed page. Keeps things neat.
P.S.S. I do believe it was update 3 that introduced EHCI.
EDIT: Added hidden part below.

Re: USB mouse/kb troubles on sam460
Well, I think we are getting somewhere....
updated to update 3, rebooted with original mouse-kb setup, kb and mouse did NOT work
Then booted with different mouse-kb (both now USB) plugged in
They both WORKED !
Then removed both and rebooted with noting on the USB ports
Then plugged USB kb and mouse in while running OS4, they where recognised and they worked both
updated to update 3, rebooted with original mouse-kb setup, kb and mouse did NOT work

Re: USB mouse/kb troubles on sam460
And what of copying files after booting with nothing plugged in?
The parts of your logs where their are double quotes ( "" ) don't seem right. At least I've not seen that
on my 440ep.
I wonder if another 460ex user could compare to their logs? Please.
(Nice trouble shooting )
