I guess the answer is yes it would be *possible*. The problem (as always) is that Hyperion is trying to move the OS forwards (e.g. virtual memory (swap space), e.g. multi-core support), which means (1) they have less man-power for adding lots of backwards-compatibility kludges, and (2) it might not be possible to add those backwards-compatibility kludges without breaking some of the fancy new features (that have been or will be added).

It would probably be a LOT simpler & easier to fix the actual game, but for whatever reason that is apparently not on the cards (maybe there is a license issue?).

Yes, that's the right way, moving the os forward but i guess that a wrapper would let Hyperion free to do that mantaining the compatibility with all the old apps available or it wouldn't? :)

About Heretic 2 demo on my system there are some difference between Update 2 and 3

- On Update 2 i can play it a little bit but the graphics will be shortly trashed and after a while it freeze
- On Update 3 it freeze during the loading of the initial map, so you can't start the game at all :|
