The strangeness that is amigaland

Post by Srtest »

Made a significant change: AOS4.1FE instead of update 6, R9 270 (Southern Islands) instead of HD5870 and a Juli@ PCIeX1 instead of the onboard audio, Warp3D_si.

The result:

Previouslly everything video related worked great on Lubuntu and not so great on AOS - now it is the opposite because of better support on AOS and no support on Linux.

Previouslly I had no spdif output from the onboard sound on AOS and AC3/DTS on Lubuntu - now it is the opposite: I can finally get output from the digital output of the Juli@ (including DTS-audio via PCM!) on AOS and no AC3/DTS passthrough on that card on Linux while it outputs PCM via spdif just fine.

Astonishingly enough. I, too, have found greater performance under AOS with the R7 250x card than when I ran the Radeon HD 6670. I am also seeing the newer Radeon cards R7 370 and R9 370 boasting a Buss Width of 256, PCIe 3.0 x16 GDDR5 VRAM. Codename: Curacao, Architecture: GCN-1.0.
Wondering if these two cards will give optimal performance under AOS as well with current drivers and Warp-si. They are roughly in the price range and power performance. 1 ea. 6 pin power connector. Min. 500 watt power supply. Could be worth a try.

Cheers!!
