The latest updated Debian/Linux installation guide v2.1has been uploaded to the A1-X1000 betatest forum. This update includes all the corrections and a few additions from version 2.0.
Note: For the ubuntu installation you will need the special linux kernel (vmlinux39pw-1.2) and modules (2.6.39.4X1000pw-1.2) created by Pat Wall.
The Installation guide and additional files should be uploaded to the Hyperion website in the next few days for registered "First Contact" customers.

Re: NEW Debian/Linux Installation Guide version 2.1
Hi Trevor
There is a small error in the new guide
Section: 9.5 Appendix 5: Building a new Debian Kernel til AmigaONE X1000
in line
Linux patches (installed on USB disk) - http://www.stevens31.karoo.net/nemo_patch.zip
url'l is not nemo_patch.zip but kernel-39d.zip
But very nice guide
Peter

Re: NEW Debian/Linux Installation Guide version 2.1
Excuse me but where are these files? I've been checking the X1000Linux directory for some months now and it hasn't been updated since last year!
I found a link to some Google docs but these tend to become obsolete quickly and Google docs is offline right now. The server won't respond!
Is there an issue with Debian gdm? I managed to boot the installer so I could mount my drives and copy the modules to my Debian I installed months ago! It starts to boot but stops after starting up gdm. It goes no futher. And I can't switch console as keys don't respond.
This was with "39" and "39NH" kernels.
I also wanted to try Ubuntu. Being that AFAIK CFE can't unpack LZMA I extracted its initrd and repacked with GZip on OS4. I loaded it in. Boot the kernel. But it failed because it had no modules! I was using desktop 12.04 BTW.
I don't know how the guys got the kernel working without modules on a non-modified initrd. All the later kernels on the A1, 2.6.31 onwards require a boot initrd image with minimal drivers for IDE. They rely on it. Thus why Ubuntu fails here.

that's because the files are on the hyperion website.Hypex wrote:Excuse me but where are these files? I've been checking the X1000Linux directory for some months now and it hasn't been updated.
Remember this is not the beta test forum and all references for files refer to the main hyperion wbsite (not the ftp server). You should have received a serial number from ssolie and registered your X1000/OS4 on the Hyperion site. This will allow you access to the files.
If you are still can't find the files send me a pm or take the discussion to the X1000 betatest forum.

Re: NEW Debian/Linux Installation Guide version 2.1
BTW an updated Installation guide will be released in the next few days which includes instructions for all the latest GNU/Linux PowerPC distributions that can be installed on the AmigaONE X1000 (six and counting) alongside the AmigaOS.
There have been so many changes and additions that the new guide is version 2.3. A message will be posted on these forums when the guide is available to download for registered A1-X1000 owners.
