No. I did not succeed.

Why am I not able to provide any input (other than reboot) to the very first presented Debian screen which asks for language preference?
Hi, I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean. You can't choose any language, can you? Is there a reboot entry on the language choice screen?

Should I photograph the Debian installation page? It has ENGLISH highlighted. It says [TAB] to change. Choose with <SPACE>.

My keyboard has no effect. Nothing changes. It is the same with my mouse: no pointer. Clicking is ignored. The screen never changes.

My only alternative is to open the door of the X1000 and poke the reboot button.

I was having the same problem. I couldn't select any language, no keyboard input was possible. The solution was to use the new 3.10.0 kernel. Have a go at this...

Hi ggw,

Oh dear, that's annoying but don't worry we'll try to help you. :) Could you test it with another keyboard? You could buy a cheap keyboard to test. Do you have a kvm switch connected to the X1000? Some kvm switches don't work with the X1000.

Best regards,

Christian

@mrupp The USB Thumb has 3.10.0-2

@xeno74 "Standard AmiKit X1000" Keyboard has AmigaONE at the top. No KVM. The only other keyboard I have access to is the one I have used with my AmigaOne for many years (and did have Linux on before AmigaOS for it came out). If it worked with Debian Linux before, it should **surely** be useable now? I'll try it out Saturday morning.

@everybody
I will consider going to Fry's to buy a compact flash card to fit in my X1000 (instead of the USB Thumb).
Somebody... tell me what to buy! I don't know CF.

In February I had the same problem. My Cherry keyboard didn't work with Debian. The solution was to buy a cheap keyboard. ;)

@everybody.

The CompactFlash only needs 20Megs to handle the typical Linux kernel. If you buy something bigger, you can store many different kernels.
Supposedly you can buy an 8Gig CompactFlash from Walgreens Pharmacy in the camera department. Here in Texas Walgreens are located about every 20 blocks in just about any direction you go. The price is somewhere in the $10 range. As long as you don't go for the hottest thing CF technology you supposedly cannot go wrong. (We'll see.)

That is determined by Unarc the 3.10.0 kernal to RAM:, then Unarc the resulting RAM: tar file also to RAM:. Then highlight the resulting kernel-3.10.0-x1000 directory. Click Information, then click on Size:. The result here is 17,261,660 bytes in 60 files, 34 drawers (561 blocks).

George,

I went overboard and purchased a 16GB Compact flash card. I have all on the test Linux kernels (from day 1) installed on the card and have heaps of room to spare. The card is also accessible under Linux. (Thanks to Darren and Lyle).

It is much easier, IMHO, boot the kernel off the compact flash card. No need to mess about with USB pen drives etc.

Why can't the kernel be stored on the default FFS partition BDH0: where the AmigaOS kernel is stored? Is this because the kernel itself doesn't support FFS?

Because you need to boot Linux from FAT32 partition. It wont boot from an Amiga FFS
