Firefox 44.0.1 is available for the releases 15.10 and 16.04 of all Ubuntu flavors.

Screenshot: The latest Firefox 44.0.1 and the ubuntu MATE Welcome screen on Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS PowerPC??????

....

Yes, it is possible. Firefox and the Welcome screen runs in a ubuntu MATE 15.10 PowerPC chroot.

This is great news. Ubuntu 12-x1000 has a bit buggy Firefox. Midori is lightweight and usable, but not so expandable as FF.
Iceweasel, Seamonkey and others are not avail from Software Center or repositories.

Now, we just need a good kernel + Ubuntu 16 ram init for install.

Note: seems that all newer PPC distros have changed install method from initrd files to their own boots
(that simply don`t work on X1000) rendering old and nice Debian_Linux_Installation_Rev2.5.1.6_X-1000.pdf guide unsable.

Hope to see some nicer fruits of your labor in form of a baseline DVD with Mate, CInamon, new FF ... and updated Ubuntu :-)

It turns out an old version of FF on OpenSuze 64 bit works much better than whatever runs on the various 32 bit Ubuntu-based installations. I don't know if it is the difference in 64/32 bit just that it works as I remember from other platforms.

FYI: There are 2 Firefox web browsers available for Debian currently.

Firefox 45.0.1 ESR and Firefox 47.0b5. You have 2 menu entries:

1. Iceweasel -> Firefox ESR
2. Firefox
