I think it might be something to do with java although I don't have the personal tools to asses it. Of course the issue of PowerBE as a cause of bugs is always there and the trouble in compiling it over the last few versions suggest that. Another direction could be me using SI and FF pushing reliance on hardware acceleration or an addon which relies on something like that (although it still behaves like that after disabling addons). Lastly, it doesn't happen on all of the pages.
Hi Srtest,

Thanks a lot for your explanation.

Could you please test the 4.9 test kernels too? It's important because there are cross compiled.

Thanks,
Christian

Unfortunately Firefox 49.0-4 isn't really stable. I would recommend you to use Firefox 45.4.0esr-2 on Debian instead. You can install Firefox 45.4.0esr-2 with apt-get install iceweasel

Firefox 50 is available for Debian Sid/experimental PowerPC.

The good news is, that Firefox 50 is more stable than Firefox 49. :-) You need Debian Sid with the configured experimental repository in the sources.list.

Installation:

Code: Select all

# apt-get update

Code: Select all

# apt-get install -t experimental firefox

Bye-bye Icedove. Welcome Thunderbird 45.6.0! The new Thunderbird is available for Debian Sid/experimental PowerPC.
icedove (1:45.6.0-1) experimental; urgency=medium

The Icedove packages are de-branded back to the official Mozilla branding.
With the removing of the Debian branding the packages are also renamed
back to the official names used by Mozilla.

The Thunderbird package is using a different default profile folder, the
default profile folder is now '$(HOME)/.thunderbird'.
The users profile folder, that was used in Icedove. will get migrated to the
new profile folder on the first start, that can take a little bit more time.

Please read README.Debian for getting more information about the changes, and
possible needed trouble solving.
Note also #816679 containing some legal facts.

Hi All,

I installed Firefox 51.0.1-1 with apt-get install -t experimental firefox on Debian Sid/experimental PowerPC (PPC32) yesterday. Unfortunately it doesn't start.

I posted the problem on the Debian PowerPC mailing list yesterday.

Cheers,
