Problem booting Lubuntu 14.04

Post by ncafferkey »

Hi,

I'm trying to boot Lubuntu 14.04 from DVD, but I always get "kernel panic: not syncing: No working init found". I'm booting kernel 3.17 from the LOADER partition on my OS4 disk. I set root to /dev/sr0. Any ideas?

BTW, I get the impression from reading other threads in this forum that the default Linux kernel (as found on various PowerPC distros, for example) doesn't support the X1000 (so I've downloaded the kernel from one of the links here). Is this true?

The best way is, to boot the A1-X1000 Linux kernel from a CF card. You have a CF card slot on your Nemo board.

Please buy a CF card and boot the Linux kernel from it. You can't install Lubuntu 14.04 from the DVD. You need an Initrd and a special A1-X1000 Linux kernel. You can copy the initrd.gz to the CF card too. ;)

Downloads for Lubuntu 14.04:

initrd.gz

kernel-3.13.14-1-x1000-ubuntu-ppc64.tar.bz2

Yes, it's true. Our kernel needs a special patch and kernel config for the Nemo board.

Notes:

There are two main issues. Mesa issued false colors in games. They appear to be ABGR instead of RGBA, thus green becomes purple, red becomes light blue etc. I figured out what the problem is and I fixed the problem in the MesaLib source code. I released some unofficial Mesa packages. Downloads: supertuxkart-amiga.de.

The x server has not been configured automatically on Lubuntu 14.04. You have to create manually a xorg.conf file. I had the problem that the fonts were not displayed. The solution is to set the option "RenderAccel" to "false" in the xorg.conf file. For example my xorg.conf file: xorg.conf.tar.gz

Running Linux on AmigaONEs can require some tinkering.
