@zzd10h

Trevor told me that the system with the kernel 3.18 RC7 was a lot less responsive compared to the 3.17 kernel. Glxgears reported 560-650 fps with the cross complied kernel, whereas 3.17 reported ~1250 fps.

Could you test the RC6-2 and the RC5 because of this problem, please? I'd like to know if the less response time is available in these kernels as well.

Thank you very much for your help.

@xeno74

Hi,
I didn't noticed speed decrease with your latest cross-compiled kernel.

To compare, I used 2 kernels that I have on my X1000 CFE (to avoid to waste to much time to retest the 2 that you linked ;) )

And as you can see on these screenshots, there are no difference with glxgears for me

1) older 3.17 RC3

Image

2) 3.18 RC7 (your latest cross-compiled one)

Many thanks for testing!

@All

Please test the RC7 because of the less responsive problem.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Srtest

I need your help. I cross compiled the RC7 on my x86-64 Ubuntu Server 14.04.1 two days ago. Trevor told me that the system with the kernel 3.18 RC7 was a lot less responsive compared to the 3.17 kernel. Glxgears reported 560-650 fps with the cross complied kernel, whereas 3.17 reported ~1250 fps.
Could you test the RC7 because of this problem, please? I'd like to know if the less response time is available on your X1000 as well.

Thanks in advance.

I'm here. :D I am not going away. ;-) Sorry for my late answer but I tested a lot yesterday. I recognized a bit lesser 3D acceleration with the cross compiled RC7 than with kernel 3.17.2. But I didn't recognize it with SuperTuxKart. I watched the movie big_buck_bunny_1080p_surround.avi. I didn't see any differences between the cross compiled RC7 and the normal compiled RC7-2. I tested it with my AMD Radeon HD 6870. This graphics card has a Barts GPU. It's the same GPU, as on Trevor's graphics card. I have compiled the RC7-2 on my AMIGA one X1000 recently. Could you test this kernel, please?

Re: Kernel 3.18

Well, I get around 600 fps both with and without the cross-compiled kernel where the CC one gives a couple dozens frames less than the non-CC one. Regarding system wide performance everything I normally do including working with compositing effects and screen apps seems normal. FF is heavy as usual you could think it was running the latest Crytek engine...

Great, because you didn't replied too in FS-UAE thread ;)

Therefore, for you too, no performance issue with this kernel.

I tested your last one. No version change in "uname -a", right ?

glxgears -info is the same (maybe a little bit better but at least not worse)

Code: Select all

5503 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1100.542 FPS
5445 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1088.951 FPS

I think it is better to compile the kernel on the AMIGA one X1000. But cross compiling was very interesting. ;-)

Trevor re-tried the earlier 3.18 cross complied kernel and this time is performed normally. He has no idea why it was 50% slower than normal. He also tried the normal compiled RC7 kernel. He found some problems. After extracted the archive under Linux, when he attempts to boot his X1000 using the vmlinux-3.18 kernel included in the archive he got the following error message:

Code: Select all

could not load cf0:vmlinux-3.18: Not an ELF-format executable

However, he then copied to a USB flash drive and the kernel booted normally. All other kernels boot from CF card OK. There is another problem. He gets an error message saying that Linux has detected a problem and does he want to report it. He ignores the message an all appears to work OK.

@All

Does anyone have these problems?

I will try to figure out what the problems are. That means, I can't release the final kernel tomorrow. We have to test the RC7 more.
