Upgraded today to the latest version and I can't boot. I'm going back to 14.04 after loosing yet another partition to testing.

Could you post any error messages?

Just to check...

Your last picture shows ext2 and ext3 not mounting sda6 due to 'unsupported optional features'

These messages appear with ext4 filesystems, but I don't see ext4 mounting sda6. Are you trying to boot a ext4 root filesystem with an kernel without ext4 compiled in?

It's something to check.

I got those commands most of the time I booted normally so it usually didn't have anything to it. It is more about other drives using ext3 or ext2 which are for storage.

After testing again Lubuntu Vivid Vervet I was happy it installed directly via the modified initrd.gz combined with kernel 3.19 rc7 without the need to upgrade a previous installation so at last it was simple (http://www.xenosoft.de/initrd-15.04-modified.gz).

However, then I got the same Issues Xeno got on Mate and so it occured to me you could go either way: you could stay with XORG 17.1 and SYSTEMD or go all the way and replace SYSTEMD with UPSTART and replace all the files of XORG and XSERVER back to ver 16 etc... This is important because it is much better to try and avoid the issue of dependencies every time you need to automatically perform a system update. In the previous 14.10, I always went back and forth back and forth between the Mesa files and the dependency issues they created, in order of doing an update/upgrade and then going back to the correct version. This is a pain so it is better to either go with the current XORG and SYSTEMD through its issues or go completley with XORG 16 and UPSTART.

A: You can make SYSTEMD and XORG 17.1 work at least if you can "suffer" the wrong colors problem, especially since Xeno's Mesa fix works great with the colors of movies and games while the interface is still effected. Likewise, SYSTEMD does work at least for me it just adds a lag: about a minute before login while doing some sort of permissions thing it can't get around of, and after login it takes a while to bring up the complete Lubuntu interface which can be "fixed" instantlly =>
Open up an LXTASK session either via launching the program or with a terminal.
Next, make it so you'll be able to see all of the tasks.
After that, open 2 new terminals, on one write "startlxde" and immediatelly afterwards write on the other one "lxsession". This will change the interface (twice) but still won't launch it.
Then, go back to LXTASK and "KILL" by order, first the LXDE task that the said command added, then the LXSESSION task that said command added, and finally, LXPANEL which if everything works should make a new LXPANEL appear in LXTASK, the Lubuntu screen bar should appear and the entire interface should also be usable again without the need to wait for resolving SYSTEMD permissions issues or whatever. As I mentioned earlier, the most recent XORG and RADEON work with the Mesa patch just not in interface mode so I guess whoever is dependent on stuff like screenshot those issues still remain like those we have on the unpatched Mesa.

B. If you go the other way like I eventually did, you can use what I'm adding - a bunch of needed files to get the situation back to where everything works AND you can update normally while making sure YOU DON'T PICK XORG OR XSERVER OR RADEON/ATI UPDATES. When I did the first step suggested by Xeno - downgrading to XORG XSERVER 16, It said it was dependent on libgcrypt11 which wasn't available on the repositories, only after installing the right library I downgraded to XSERVER-XORG-CORE 16 and then was faced with the dependency issues I had experienced on Lubuntu 14.10 so decided to revert the entire XORG-XSERVER-RADEON files to their previous versions. I added all the files needed on Lubuntu 15.04 to achieve that.

* Changing from SYSTEM to UPSTART via apt-get didn't work on Lubuntu as it said it was already installed. What I did in place was tick it in SYNAPTIC and then it warned me it will remove systemd and something called ubuntu-standard. Anyway, it worked.

** When using Xeno's patch (http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz ... 0&start=40) make sure you also copy the entire folder to the correct place (sudo cp -R mesa-10.0.4 /usr/local) or things using it will be very slow or not work at all. In addition, there is typo on the 4th line (2nd copy command of an *.so file)

*** The new Firefox/Iceweasel is crippled both with UPSTART or SYSTEMD. A lot of the clicks don't work and every download when completed is declared failed. The recent Thunderbird works normally and you can also download with other software. Fortunatlley you can download and install the previous Firefox version from here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fi ... ld/7008250

**** We need to review the ups and downs after recent months of testing if it is even recommended to move past Trusty 14.04 for X1k users.

***** After reverting back to UPSTART you also need to add back RW to the CFE boot command (setenv bootargs "root=/dev/sda6 rw")

****** Kernel 4.1 alpha 3 works.
