(X)(L)ubuntu (MATE) 16.04 LTS

I successfully updated my ubuntu MATE 15.10 to 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus today. I want to do some beta testing.
Update instructions for (X)(L)ubuntu (MATE):
- CTRL+ALT+F1 to change to the console login on (X)(L)ubuntu (MATE) 15.10.
- Login as user
- Change your user to the root user with

sudo su
- Stop X11 with
Code: Select all
service lightdm stop
- Update the package index of your old 15.10 system:

apt-get update
- Upgrade your packages to the latest packages on your old 15.10 system:

apt-get upgrade
- Remove those dependencies that were installed with applications and that are no longer used by anything else on the system:

apt-get autoremove
- Remove .deb files for packages that are no longer installed on your system:
Code: Select all
apt-get autoclean
- Update your repositories to the new 16.04 repositories

sed -i 's/wily/xenial/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
- Update the package index of the new 16.04 system:

apt-get update
- Upgrade your 15.10 system to version 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus:

apt-get dist-upgrade
- Reboot your AmigaONE X1000 with
Code: Select all
reboot
- Login in your new 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus system.
- Tidy up with the terminal.

sudo apt-get autoremove
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get autoclean
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get clean
- Download the unofficial Mesa: MesaLib-10.0.4-powerpc-unofficial.tar.bz2
- Extract it in your home folder
- Rename the original r600_dri.so to r600_dri.so.bak:

sudo mv /usr/lib/powerpc-linux-gnu/dri/r600_dri.so /usr/lib/powerpc-linux-gnu/dri/r600_dri.so.bak
- Copy the patched r600_dri.so to /usr/lib/powerpc-linux-gnu/dri:

sudo cp mesa-10.0.4/lib/dri/r600_dri.so /usr/lib/powerpc-linux-gnu/dri
- Copy the whole Mesa directory to /usr/local:

sudo cp -R mesa-10.0.4 /usr/local
- Reboot your AmigaONE X1000 and enter the firmware. If you have autoboot set up, press
CTRL-C. If you have the latest menu-enabled firmware, press the F key to enter the firmware. In
any case, you should end up on the firmware's command prompt which looks like this:Code: Select all

- Rename the old 15.10 CFE boot entry to the new version 16.04 LTS for example:

CFE> setenv -p MENU_3_LABEL "ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS Kernel 4.2"
- To activate the new Boot Menu type menu and use the arrow keys to select and highlight 3: ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS Kernel 4.2 before the timer bar runs down.
- After the login you can test the unofficial Mesa with glxgears:

vblank_mode=0 glxgears
Compiz doesn't work anymore. The window decoration doesn't display. It needs the package compiz-gnome to display the window decoration. I tried to install this package with:

sudo apt-get install compiz-gnome
Conclusioncompiz-gnome: Depends: libmetacity-private3 (>= 3.17.1) but is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages
Xorg, sound/audio, network, and 3D acceleration are working.

I just got the new Firefox 42 for ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS PowerPC.
