I'm unable to enable compiz or hardware acceleration.
I tried different kernels, at the moment I'm using 4.6.4 (the latest of the 4.6 series)
In MATE Tweak/Windows only "Marco (no comp)" and "Marco (Software compositor" are available.
In Synaptics Package Manager "compiz" is marked as installed, as is OpenGL.
I marked them for re-installation with all related components and applied the changes.
Also I installed "CompizConfig Settings Manager" using the "Ubuntu Software Center" as it was not installed.
System Information indicates "Software Rasterizer" for "OpenGL Renderer".
SuperTuxKart also only works in Software rendering.
Ubuntu is on an SSD and it's a recent installed (copied using dd) from the SI-3 image earlier in this thread. (Partition is set up correctly correctly and repaired to the correct size) every partition has it's own unique UUID and the the root partition UUID is set correctly in /etc/fstab
AmigaOne X1000
R7 270X GPU (I do have a Sapphire 7970 available too)
Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS up-to-date
Kernels 4.1.30, 4.6.4, 4.6.2, 4.4.4, 4.5.0, 4.4.3-jm
The Kernel modules are also installed correctly.
What could be wrong or what am I doing wrong?
Edit: All right, I suppose neither the Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 nor R7 270X are not supported. I installed the Radeon 5450 and "MATE Tweak" displayed the option for "Compiz".. :-/
Will Higher End Graphics card be supported?

You're using an unsupported graphics card. Compiz uses 3D acceleration, and at the moment the radeonsi driver (needed for both your cards) doesn't run correctly on Big-endian systems. We have someone working on it, but these things take time.
It is possible to run the X1000 with 2 different graphics cards in, one for 3D on OS4, and one for Linux, but it would take some setting up. and I don't think I have the time to test that out right now. (OS4 is much nicer to get working with 2 cards in my experience)
Edit: I also tried to install the unofficial Mesa lib 10.4 (from page 22 in this thread)
That only fixes texture formats in the r600 driver, it doesn't contain a radeonsi driver sorry.
When we get 3D on HD7xxx R7/R9 cards in Linux you will hear about it.
Regards
Darren

Hi Darren, it looks like I was editing my post the same time you where posting yours. After some "graphics card swapping" I came to the conclusion you posted.
Thanks a lot for you answer and all the work you're putting in it, I'll try to set up 2 cards.
have a nice day!

I was able to boot
Julian's ubuntu MATE 16.04 from the USB flash drive with the new longterm kernel
4.1.31 and with the
initrd.img-4.1.31. I use the label
Ubuntu_16.04.
-
Code: Select all
ramdisk -z -addr=0x2400000 -fatfs usbdisk0:initrd.img-4.1.31
-
Code: Select all
setenv bootargs "root=LABEL=Ubuntu_16.04"
-
Code: Select all
boot -elf- noints -fatfs usbdisk0:vmlinux-4.1
Please note: CFE firmware does not recognise USB devices on power-up unless they are connected to the first USB port which is reserved for the keyboard. Unless you have a USB hub connected to the first port which allows you to connect both the keyboard and USB disk, you will need to insert the USB disk AFTER you have entered CFE.

FYI:
Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS Released; Ubuntu 17.04 In Feature Freeze
"Like previous LTS series', 16.04.2 includes hardware enablement stacks for use on newer hardware. This support is offered on all architectures except for 32-bit powerpc, and is installed by default when using one of the desktop images.

Why are you putting this here? The CD does not boot on an AmigaOne X1000. Most of what I see you posting here does not work for many, many reasons. This kind of posting only makes it very confusing and very difficult for most anyone that is not a expert linux user.
