It does work. ;-) I use all these things every day. If you want that it works, then you have to read more the Linux forums and learn more. Linux isn't easy but you can learn it. ;-)

Learning learning is the solution. Please look in the threads. A lot of users successfully use Linux on theirs AmigaOnes. (Tom, Casey, Musa, Mechanic, zzd10h, John, Srtest, AlfredOne, etc etc)

They have learned to use Linux. ;-)

I can't complain that it is difficult to install OS4.1 on WinUAE. It's difficult but I can learn it. Running Linux on AmigaONEs can require some tinkering.

@xeno74

"Running Linux on AmigaONE's" Now there is a great idea, a manual or book to encourage more people to use or try Linux on there AmigaOne's. Helping people to learn some things to get the most out of there AmigaOne's.

Unfortunately we aren't enough people in the Core Linux support team to do all these things. We are looking for some new members. You could join us if you like.

FYI:

Spectre660 wrote:Untested X1000 Ubuntu-Mate 16.04 Net install initrd
Simple conversion of the X5000 ramdisk so should work with any Radeon card up to Radeon SI .
Installed xorg.conf uses fbdev so for 3D acceleration for Northern Island cards delete the org.conf after installation.

Great news!

Thank you Xeno, and surely Jah.

Will be tested coupled with vmlinux-4.18-rc7-2-AmigaOne_X1000.tar.gz

Beside clean install how would it rate against Fedora 27 and pain of DD-ing? Would Fed27 at all work at SI cards and is Fed only fully 64-bit distro (speaking of future 8GB upgrade and could likely use the new MATE netinstall and Ubuntu to install Fed to other SSD partion if possible!)

I successfully upgraded my ubuntu MATE 16.04.4 LTS to version 16.04.5 LTS on my AmigaOne X1000 today. :-)

Just for info:

Ubuntu mailing list wrote:
Like previous LTS series', 16.04.5 includes hardware enablement stacks for use on newer hardware. This support is offered on all architectures except for 32-bit powerpc ...

This isn’t 100% correct. AmigaOne X5000 and X1000 users can get the 4.18 and 4.17 Linux kernels and the Mesa version 18.1.2 for Ubuntu 32-bit powerpc. :-) That means we have also the new hardware enablement stack.

Screenshot of ubuntu MATE 16.04.5 LTS PowerPC with the RC7 of kernel 4.18 and with Mesa 18.1.2:
