How to install newer Ubuntu with MATE?

Post by vox »

Hi dear Linux x1000 team,

Seems that initrd.gz files

(X)(L)ubuntu (MATE) 14.10 install initial RAM disk by Nexus: initrd-14.10-modified.gz

(X)(L)ubuntu (MATE) 15.04 install initial RAM disk by Nexus: initrd-15.04-modified.gz

at http://www.supertuxkart-amiga.de/amiga/x1000.html are broken

Gladly, there is an unlisted PDF with weblinks that does work
http://www.xenosoft.de/ubuntu_MATE_15.1 ... -X1000.pdf

However, it omits a fact that kernel files needs to be extracted to cf0: card

Also, during this install with recommended kernel 4.2 it happens that ethernet is not visible, or even worse that it doesn`t see the drives (mine is an SSD but should not make a difference)

If install completes, it runs in terminal mode, even installation of a desktop manager, doesn`t help to startx.

From installed Ubuntu 12 updated to the max, seems there is no way to download and install MATE and as far as I do understand auto upgrade to 14.x or newer kills AEON Ubuntu 12 completely. :ugeek:

Which graphics card is installed in your A1-X1000?
http://www.amigalinux.org

Running Linux on AmigaONEs can require some tinkering.

RadeonHD 6870 , code name is Barts

Speaking of it, do all RadeonHD cards have problem with sending VGA signal to monitor on power on/resert of X1000?
about 3 out of 5 times I don`t get any screen - which looks ... bad. I was told this was due to card x86 BIOS to CFE misscommunication.
Any workarounds?

(even if workaround means a complete change of gfx card - are all Radeons HD 6000 and above affected?)
