The 3.18.37 kernel had the problem in prom.c (transactional memory) which prevented it from booting.

Good news is the patch to repair that problem was included in the 3.18.38 source so the 3.18 series is back on track for the X1000.

Just playing around.

I built 3.18.38 with gcc4.9 (Debian 8.5) and it does boot Debian 8.5 and also Debian 9.
Unfortunetly, it does not crank up Gnome 3 on Deb 9, but xfce does work.

That's enough for today. :)
