Ubuntu 12.04.05 LTS with (Stable) Kernel 4.1.20

Post by jdupuis »

Hi Christian,

What I have done in my Ubuntu 12.04 is put all of the Kernel 4.1.20 folders and files with the same folders and files of 3.17. User/src, boot, libs/modules, etc. Titled the folders the same as 3.17 i.e "vmlinux-4.1.20.0_KVM-PR-FTRACE".
Simply just made duplicates of the 3.17 folders, renamed and added just the 4.1.20 files and renaming them accordingly where needed. i.e "src/vmlinux-4.1.20.0_KVM-PR-FTRACE/nemo_4.1.20.0_KVM-PR_FTRACE.config" ...and so on. Leaving the Kernel "vmlinux-4.1" in it's folder on the CF Card. Personally it seems that I see and feel a difference, or maybe I'm just seeing things. You have said it is not necessary to copy over files from unpacked kernel folder. Just thought I would experiment. Seems to be great. Just an FYI :)

Cheers!!

You only need the kernels on the CF card but of course you can use your CF card for other files as well.

Anyway, would you mind testing the RC4 of kernel 4.6?

Hi Christian,

The job is sending me away for the week. I won't be around the X1000. This coming weekend I'll see where you are and go from there. I'm liable to be testing RC5 by then at the pace you are on! :)
I'll get with you when I'm back and ready to conquer the R7 250X. I'm pretty spoiled on the 6670 now that I found and fixed my X1000 buggies. Namely that Microsoft Sculpt Mouse USB Transmitter. Ever since I went back to the wired mouse, took care of RAM and got a grip on my SATA HD's and cables, my X1000 is running smooth. I can't imagine how great it would be with a 6850 HD GPU.

Cheers!!

Hi Christian!

Good to be back behind the X1000. Updated 16.04 using Software Updater/Partial Upgrade. Went smooth as silk. Still have the fullscreen SMTube and VLC YouTube video playback issue but I work with it as I do Odyssey in AOS. I'm thinking an HD 6850 might help, don't know. I will settle in now. Mate is running very well. I'm still using kernel 4.1.20. I achieve consistent booting under Mate 16.04 and Ubuntu 12.04.05. One kernel does it all. Great work to all on the new Ubuntu Mate 16.04 for the X1000!! :)

Cheers!!
