Hi Christian,
Been running Ubuntu Mate 16.04 with Kernel 4.6 Final. Using Ubuntu "Main Server" set in "Software and Updates". I have been recieving updates well until today when I got updates including Firefox. Closed unexpectedly. Sent error report and hit Relauch. No go. Using QupZilla and found I can use it much more than Firefox and have not asked you for plugins (yet). Anyway, I thought I would report the issue. The Firefox Update screen comes up but just the border only. Maybe this is due to the graphic environment with the R7 250X or it is a version of Firefox not supported or it truly is broken.
Cheers!!
John

Hi John,
Many thanks for reporting this issue.
I haven't updated my ubuntu MATE for a few days. Luigi and este.el.paz have the same problems with Firefox 46.01.

Re: Ubuntu Mate Updates-Kills Firefox
Thanks Christian.
Ironically, the graphics environment shows an attempt to look better as well. I have read over your tutorial for installing OpenSuSe. I was running OpenSuSe on my old PC a few years ago - 11.1 x86 to be exact. I found it to be one of the best Linux Distro's.
X1000 requires a little more work to install it.
Where do I get the ISO to do the initial install? ...and do I use Kernel 4.6 or 4.7 for the initial install considering my R7 250X installed? I am willing to give it a shot. Just need to get this together prior to implementing your tutorial.
Cheers!!
John
(Would like to stay with the R7 250X to provide feedback to you)

I didn't test the installation with the ISO. I updated openSUSE 13.2 PPC64 to openSUSE Tumbleweed PPC64 because the installation doesn't work via network and the initrd.
Link to the ISO: openSUSE-Tumbleweed-DVD-ppc64-Current.iso
You need the Tumbleweed initrd to install from the DVD ISO: http://download.opensuse.org/ports/ppc/tumbleweed/repo/oss/boot/ppc64/initrd
I tested Tumbleweed with the longterm kernel 4.1.24 and with the alpha2 of kernel 4.7.

In the meanwhile there was actual activity on the LP post . . . seems like this is indeed a known issue . . . suggestion was to "downgrade to FF 44" until the storm blows over . . . . Might do that, or just forgettaboutit until the next FF package is added to update/upgrade . . . and "test it." : - )

Re: Ubuntu Mate Updates-Kills Firefox
Christian,
Thanks for the FYI!
I'm going to go ahead with Tumbleweed on R7 250X GPU. My lowest bootable (no issue) Kernel rev. is 4.6.6, of course, highest I've tested and use is 4.6 Final with the R7 250X. I'll test 4.7 Alpha and use it if no issues. As I've reported, 4.0.7 will boot, but, I have to manipulate the first two CFE boot statements to do so. Kernel 4.1.20 and 4.1.21 do not complete boot with R7 250X. All looks well until the moment the GUI should appear. No video signal at all. If I failed to correctly report this a while back, my apology. However, all is well with Kernels 4.6.6 and 4.6. Now I will get all downloaded and ready for a go with Tumbleweed.
If I wanted to brush up on Terminal skills, I think I found the right neighborhood
Cheers!
John

What about the kernel 4.1.22 (cross compiled), 4.1.23 (cross compiled), and 4.1.24 (native compiled)? Do they complete boot with your R7 250X?
Thanks,
Christian

Does it work now? I have to switch to the first TTY (tty1) with CTRL + ALT + F1 and then I can manually start Xorg with startx.jdupuis wrote:Christian,
