Until yesterday, my MATE desktop had the names of three menus at the top left, between a little Ubuntu logo and the Firefox icon, reading "Applications Places System." Yesterday they disappeared.
I didn't use "Places" much, but I waas missing "Applications" and "System." Well, apparently I have managed to get the two of the menu contents back in a way, with a double circle and an arrow head with "Menu" to the right. And I managed to "Applications" and "Systems" combined in a single menu called "Main Menu" marked with a variation of the Ubuntu logo, so no problem, but I remain surprised. What in the world led to this? Did I do something dumb?

I don't know what happened. You could also try MATE Tweak to get the menus back.
Cheers,

Re: Lost menus
Thanks. Another case of computer being weird. "Applications," "Places," and "System" were all checked in Tweak. But I unchecked them, and then checked them again, and those words suddenly reappeared between the menu icon and and Firefox, upper left corner. Some other icons that had been there to the right of Firefox before I Tweaked, namely Scribus, Thunderbird Mail, and one other, disappeared and haven't come back. No big deal.xeno74 wrote:kilaueabart wrote:.... You could also try MATE Tweak to get the menus back.
Re: Lost menus
Thanks for the hint. MATE Tweak can reset the menus to default but it removes the own icons and menus.kilaueabart wrote:Thanks. Another case of computer being weird.
