i modified fstab but it doesn't resolve the problem.
I'm not a linux expert, but i think the problem is very early in the startup phase. /etc/fstab is not accessible if linux can't mount the root partition, is it?
Booting with bootargs 'root=/dev/sdc3 rootdelay=5' i can see following logs:
BOOT_FAILED_01.jpg

BOOT_FAILED_02.jpg

I see lots of COMRESET failed messages, It's a long time since I've seen those, I don't get them any more.

They are due to a bug in the kernel/CFE that I have been unable to locate/fix, which occurs in a system like yours which has a very high end graphics card, i.e one with a 256bit memory bus - I used to see them with my 4850 - and only 2Gb memory installed.

To fix, either replace your graphics card with a lower one (e.g HD7750) or, probably better for you add 2Gb more memory to your X1000.

IIRC it didn't always boot like that, sometimes it will boot normally, you can try rebooting once you see the COMRESET messages, (Once you see those it won't recover)

In the 1st pic you can see that only one IDE HD on sda (MAXTOR 80GB) is detected and my CompactFlash (32GB) on sdb.
My SATA HDs are not detected at all.

But if i boot from DVD, then all HD are detected (SATA HDs mapped on sda and sdb , IDE HD on sdc and CompactFlash on sdd. From that moment on, i can boot even without DVD after a reset.
After a poweroff the problem come back.

If it always boots OK from the DVD, you could try loading the kernel from there - with bootargs for your hard drive, Possibly CFE is changing something when it loads stuff from the DVD, Hmmm... Hadn't spotted that.

Hope this helps

Too bad, I thought that once installed and with a successful boot, that would be enabled automatically.

So, what can I do?

No, it isn't enabled automatically because of the SI graphics cards. We use the fbdev video driver so it works with all graphics cards. If you want to enable hardware 3D acceleration, please replace the fbdev video driver with the radeon driver in the xorg.conf.

I tried to install a couple of times and each time something goes wrong. This time at least I finished the install as seing as the problematic files are or related to LibreOffice it's not a complete error issue. However, it adds hours to the install time and I tried to burn the dvd again and the same issues have risen. Please check the live dvd for errors.

So, I modified the xorg.conf file, with "radeon" instead "fbdev" in the Card0 Driver item. Note that I had to comment this line too:

Option "RenderAccel" "fals

That made "vblank_mode=0 glxgears" produce 300 FPS instead of 70.

Anyway, even with that, I wonder if there is not something wrong. I expected a more reactive system ... Firefox is slow here. Even with only this page opened, "top" gives 50 to 60 % of CPU busy, sometimes that jumps to 100%.

I will continue to use and test soon, so I will be able to give a better feedback.

Hi Corto,

Thank you for your reply. You have low glxgears values.

My values (XFX RADEON HD6870 1GB)

8446 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1689.094 FPS
8449 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1689.668 FPS
8476 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1695.108 FPS
8474 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1694.621 FPS

Your HD6570 needs the following firmwares in the Linux kernel:

Code: Select all
radeon/BTC_rlc.bin radeon/TURKS_mc.bin radeon/TURKS_me.bin radeon/TURKS_pfp.bin radeon/TURKS_smc.bin radeon/SUMO_uvd.bin

Source: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Radeon

I have checked the kernel config because of the firmwares you need. The result is, that all firmwares are included for your HD6570.

Could you please post the output of glxinfo | grep -i opengl?

Maybe the user isn't in the video group. You can check it with the command groups.

You can add your user to the group video with the following command:

Code: Select all
usermod -aG video your username

Caseycullen has created instructions for removing the "Live User Session" and adding an own user.

Many thanks to Caseycullen for creating the instructions. :-)

I will try adding 2GB more memory.

There is an easy way to create an own user.

  1. System - Administration - Users and Groups
  2. Click the button Add to add a new user

    Image

    Image

  3. Click the button Advanced Settings after typing the Username and Password
  4. Choose the tab User Privileges. I'd suggest checking all of the options.

    Image

  5. Code: Select all
    sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

It displays some text as follows:
    Code: Select all
    [SeatDefaults]
    allow-guest=false
    autologin-guest=false
    autologin-user=ubuntu-mate
    autologin-user-timeout=0
  6. Delete the ubuntu-mate user and leave it blank
  7. Delete the line autologin-user-timeout=0
  8. Reboot your X5000 or X1000

@xeno74 Ok, I'm back after xmas holidays.

The user was not in the video but adding it does not change anything.
If it is required, that should be done at installation.

About OpenGL in glxinfo:

$ glxinfo | grep -i opengl
OpenGL vendor string: X.Org
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD TURKS (DRM 2.48.0)
OpenGL core profile version string: 3.2 (Core Profile) Mesa 11.2.0
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 1.50
OpenGL core profile context flags: (none)
OpenGL core profile profile mask: core profile
OpenGL core profile extensions:
OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 11.2.0
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30
OpenGL context flags: (none)
OpenGL extensions:
OpenGL ES profile version string: OpenGL ES 3.0 Mesa 11.2.0
OpenGL ES profile shading language version string: OpenGL ES GLSL ES 3.00
OpenGL ES profile extensions:

And:

$ glxinfo | grep direct
direct rendering: Yes
GL_ARB_direct_state_access, GL_ARB_draw_buffers,
GL_ARB_draw_indirect, GL_ARB_draw_instanced,
GL_ARB_multi_draw_indirect, GL_ARB_occlusion_query2,

Here is the DRM part in dmesg, I see no problem ...
