Hi All,

I added the kernel modules to the SquashFS image and I uploaded the ISO for testing today.

Download: ubuntu-mate-16.04.1-desktop-powerpc-x1000.iso

I am not sure if all graphics cards work with the fbdev driver. We need some test results from SI and NI users.

You can boot the ISO with the following commands:

Code: Select all

CFE> ramdisk -addr=0x24000000 -fs=iso atapi0.1:casper/powerpc64/initrd.

Code: Select all

CFE> setenv bootargs "root=/dev/ramdisk file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu-mate.seed boot=casper quiet ro splash --"

Code: Select all

CFE> boot -elf -noints -fs=iso atapi0.1:casper/powerpc64/vmlinux.
Please test it. I'd like to know if it boots.

Cheers,

Christian

It boots fine to the Mate-Desktop but it cannot mount my btrfs-usb-stick.

I testet this with with my older RadeonHD5450 (Hardware-Renderer ;) ) , tests with my R7 250x follows next

Yes. It boots on HD 6850 BARTS card.

I tried to install the system but it keeps wanting LVM-MODULE after selecting which partition to install to and I'm trying to put it on a primary partition.

But it boots and things work.

I've been downloading the new iso all day & still only half done. With the problems reported so far, will another iso come out?
I will stop my dl just in case.

Fantastic! Well done! Thank you! :-) This thing with the Btrfs USB stick is strange because it is the same kernel that you use on your Live DVD.

Hardware-Renderer? Did you change the driver fbdev to radeon?

Awesome! Well done! Does it mean, that the Ubiquity installer works? I can only select the language. After that it crashes. Can you select a partition or does it crash after the LVM message? Maybe we need LVM kernel modules. Thank you for testing! :-)

Sorry, that the download takes so long. I hope you can download and test it. I could try to upload it to a free hoster or another user can upload it to Dropbox or Google Drive.

The dl time is only a problem if I need to do it many times, thats why I asked if the iso will be updated again. I know this is a work in progress & something I really wanted to see happen, & thanks :-D

My proceedure.

Download 4 1/2 hours.
Burn to DVD.
Boot using supplied command lines.
Crank, crank, crank.....desktop :)

I can start the graphical installer either from the welcome window or double click the Install Icon.

Select keyboard.
Select language.
Select Manual install.
Choose partition on MBR drive (sda2).
Select ext4 (or btrfs).
Select Swap (sda4).
Select 'Do Not Use' for other partitions.
It brings up the info window about what it's going to do to the HD.
Select Continue. At this point the installer displays the Time Zone map and a warning window about needing LVM. Lock-up. The End.

At that point I can still use apps, but the installer is locked. I do not have any Logical partitions on the drives.

So far, so good.
