It goes to a very early boot stage when it says - "boots something something ........" and then nothing. It is similiar to the way the microcode didn't work a few kernels back until it was reverted.
That report doesn't really tell us very much. Is there any chance you can hook you system up to serial terminal and catch the boot log for us? I'm writing this from my X1000, fitted with my HD7750 - and I booted Christians alpha 5 (this was all I had handy) - The boot procceded just as all others do. There is something funny going on with your system and we need more information to find out what.

Perhaps you could post your specs here so we can try and re-create the problem.

Darren
The only differences between a standard X1000 and mine are graphics and sound: Radeon R9-270 (some generic manufacturer which works very well on different computers) and an ESI Juli@ for sound which also works great (except a driver issue sometimes on AOS4.1FE). I boot from a CF card and tested both cf and usb - with ext2 and fat. 4.7.8 works, 4.8 + 4.9 doesn't. Everything else is what I got from Amigakit.

I'm adding a pic of the failed boot and log of a good boot.
Everythings looks normal here. I *really* need to see serial capute of the failed boot - We are completely in the dark with out that. Remember that both TearsOfMe and I have successfully booted with a SI card in, so the new patch has worked on systems very similar to yours.

I will and try to recreate you crash, but the new kernel seems to want to work for me.

Hi All,

I have tested all cross compiled 4.9 test kernels on my X1000. All test kernels boot.

I can see the kernel boot messages until the alpha4. Since the alpha5 I only see the init boot messages on Debian Sid. On ubuntu MATE I don't see any boot and systemd messages since the alpha5. The alpha5 is the first alpha with the first PowerPC updates (powerpc-4.9-1 - Beginnings of upstream support for PA Semi Nemo motherboards).

Since the alpha7 we have DRM 2.47.0.

Unfortunately since the alpha7 pas_shutdown and pas_restart don't work anymore. Spectre660 has reported the same problem on his Sam460ex with 4.9-rc1.

Screenshot of Debian Sid PowerPC with the RC1 of kernel 4.9 and the new Firefox 49.0-4.

Unfortunately Firefox 49.0-4 isn't really stable. I would recommend you to use Firefox 45.4.0esr-2 on Debian instead. You can install Firefox 45.4.0esr-2 with apt-get install iceweasel.

Cheers,
Christian

Other than add that the X1000 also uses another ssd besides the one that was provided and that it boots from that ssd without any rdb partition table i don't think I can currently add more data. I also switched the wacom tablet with an old Logitech cordless and it didn't help as expected. Maybe there is somthing about that cf patch that effects the cf here differently? could it be that even when booted from a usb stick it can still get stuck on the cf? If you think it worth a shot I will take it out.

Hi All,

I released the RC2 of kernel 4.9 today.

New:
Download: vmlinux-4.9-rc2-AmigaONE_X1000.tar.gz

Unfortunately the kernel boot messages aren't displayed.

Christian

Hi Srtest,

Could you please test the stable longterm kernel 4.1.35?
Unfortunately the stable kernel 4.7 has the status EOL. The last kernel is 4.7.10. Maybe you can use the stable longterm kernel 4.1.35.

@Darren
Any hints for Srtest?

Christian

I don't want to ruin my Btrfs partition. I tried to figure things out with our little experiment but you nipped that experiment in the bud. If you had let it continue just a little bit longer maybe I would have known more.

Hi All,

I compiled the RC3 with Julian's kernel config options for the kernel boot messages but unfortunately without any success. With dmesg I can read the kernel boot messages.

But .....

If I add console=tty0 to the boot arguments (bootargs) then I can see the kernel boot messages. That means, the kernel boot messages are not sent to tty0 by default.

Cheers,

Christian
