<SOLVED> How to force Ubuntu on PowerMac to boot into shell
Don't know if this is useful, but it took me a while to figure it out. Thanks to user k1l from IRC channel. In order to force your machine (ubuntu, powerpc, yaboot) to boot to shell mode and not gui:
1. Enter in terminal:
sudo systemctl set-default multi-user.target
2. Reboot
Voila !
If you need to reverse this:
1. Enter in terminal:
sudo systemctl set-default graphical.target
2. Reboot.
Thanks k1l !!

Hi All,
Lubuntu and ubuntu MATE have stopped the building of the daily build ISOs for PowerPC but I was able to upgrade ubuntu MATE 17.04 PowerPC today.
Links:
I do a lot of advertising for the PowerPC platform on the ubuntu MATE google+ and Facebook page. I hope I can postpone the dropping of ubuntu MATE PowerPC.
I will update my installed development version of ubuntu MATE 17.04 as long as possible. After that I will try to release an unofficial ubuntu MATE 17.04 USB img with the latest Firefox, Thunderbird, and some nice wallpapers for the X5000 and X1000. I will use the name "
MATE PowerPC Remix 2017" for the unofficial ubuntu MATE 17.04 PowerPC.
Cheers,
Christian

The developers of Lubuntu wants to remove the last PowerPC daily build in a few days.
Lubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) PowerPC Daily Build ISOs to No Longer Be Produced
I downloaded the last ISOs and uploaded them to my web space yesterday.

If Xorg doesn't work with your SI Radeon graphics card, please replace the radeon video driver with the fbdev driver in the xorg.conf (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) on your USB flash drive.

I was able to boot the
MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 with using the label
AMIGAONE with the new stable longterm kernel
4.9.10 and with the
initrd.img-4.9.10 from the USB flash drive.
The best thing with using the label is, that you don't need to know the /dev location of your USB flash drive.
-
Code: Select all
ramdisk -z -addr=0x2400000 -fatfs usbdisk0:initrd.img-4.9.10
-
Code: Select all
setenv bootargs "root=LABEL=AMIGAONE"
-
Code: Select all
boot -elf -noints -fatfs usbdisk0:vmlinux-4.9
Please note: CFE firmware does not recognise USB devices on power-up unless they are connected to the first USB port which is reserved for the keyboard. Unless you have a USB hub connected to the first port which allows you to connect both the keyboard and USB disk, you will need to insert the USB disk AFTER you have entered CFE.

I had some problems getting it succeeded. I was forced to format the fat part. and copy the kernel into it.
It goes very slowly with me but it's probably my usbdisk there is slow.

Hi Musa,
Many thanks for testing!
Yes, I think your USB flash drive is too slow. There are big performance differences between USB2 flash drives.
