Could you please boot the RC1 without the boot argument 'rw'?

Doesn't make any difference => same X.org.log.old file.

Hi Tom,

Many thanks for testing.

Do you use a xorg.conf file for X11? (/etc/X11/xorg.conf)

If yes, then you could try to start X11 without a xorg.conf.

Thanks,
Christian

Hi Christian,

If yes, then you could try to start X11 without a xorg.conf.

If I remove this file, both the 4.11 and the 4.13-rc1 boots fail to go into
the GUI, but do continue into a raw terminal screen. "startx" fails as well
from that terminal screen.

Lots of errors in .xsession-errors like this:

Restoring the /etc/X11/xorg.conf that was there previously makes the 4.11 kernel boot ok into the GUI.

I find it quite had to rely on Googling or even the Ubuntu wiki to make much progress in
realizing what Linux info applies to my installation or understanding the various Linux approaches
to doing things. :?

Can you recommend a good "book" (paper or digital) to consult?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi All,

I tested the RC1 on my AmigaOne X1000 today.

Debian Sid boots and I can login. The MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 boots and I see the lightdm display manager. Unfortunately lightdm stopped suddenly and tried very often to start again but without any success.

Hi All,

I successfully tested the RC1 with ubuntu MATE 16.04.2 LTS today. I was able to boot it and Xorg works.
I upgraded it today and I got the new Mesa 17.07. :-)

Hi All,

I tested Julian's RC1 with the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 and with ubuntu MATE 16.04.2 LTS on my AmigaOne X5000 today.

It works with ubuntu MATE 16.04.2 LTS without any problems. Unfortunately Xorg doesn't work with Julian's RC1 on the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017.

That means we have the same problem with the kernel 4.13 on the X5000. Maybe a kernel option is missing.

Cheers,
Christian

Hi All,

I have removed the PowerPC updates in the bad commit Merge tag 'libnvdimm-for-4.13'. (arch/powerpc/sysdev/axonram.c)

After compiling I was able to login but unfortunately the X1000 froze.

I have to look further in the bad commit.
