Use of Arrow Keys in Font Requester.
Use of Arrow Keys in Font Requester.
It would be handy if you could use the arrow keys to scroll through the fonts in a font requester window. If you have a lot of fonts installed it's very laborious to individually select each font in the lister just so you can see what it looks like in the preview window.
Re: Use of Arrow Keys in Font Requester.
I never got a reply about this. Does anyone else feel that this would be useful and make productivity more fun, or is it just me.
Also does anybody have any idea about easy this would be able to be implemented. I have a feeling it's fairly trival but perhaps I'm wrong there.

Re: Use of Arrow Keys in Font Requester.
It already does this, as far as I can see.
I just tested it on a clean FE installation.
I started the Font prefs, clicked the GetFont gadget for the first font setting, and it came up with the font requester for the currently selected font. When I then use the down arrow, it selects the next font and shows it in the preview, down again shows the next font, etc.
Am I misunderstanding what you want?
Best regards,
Niels

@nbache
Tried exactly the same procedure, Up/Down arrow key doesn't work, no list element changes, like RobMartin.
Tried on a X1000/no betatest OS4.1.FE

Re: Use of Arrow Keys in Font Requester.
I agree with Niels, it works just fine with a clean install of FE on an X-5000.
Can either of you describe a sequence of steps that does not work? Step by step?

Yes, easy, by using niels procedure :
"I started the Font prefs, clicked the GetFont gadget (the Ff button, right ?) for the first font setting, and it came up with the font requester for the currently selected font. When I then use the down arrow, it DOESN'T selects the next font"

Re: Use of Arrow Keys in Font Requester.
It only works when the font text gadget is active, which it is by default when you open the requester but as soon as you clicck away, the string gadget goes in active.
Re: Use of Arrow Keys in Font Requester.
Works here, Ff clicked, new window comes up, cursor keys work

Re: Use of Arrow Keys in Font Requester.
Tested under 4.1.6 and 4.1.FE, both are NOT working.
Nevertheless, it's not a problem for me.
But maybe that we don't speak about the same test.
In Prefs/Font :
1) click on the first "Ff" ("icon font")
2) when font window is opened, click on a Font in the list
3) cursor keys don't change the selected item in this list.

Re: Use of Arrow Keys in Font Requester.
Hello,
I confirm that once a font name (or its size) is selected in the listbox by a mouse click, the selection using cursor keys doesn't work anymore.
But it works again if you click on the name (or the size) in the box under the listbox, where edit cursor appears again!
Regards,
Petrol.
