More than 2 SATA Drives with X5000

Post by amigasociety »

I understand the Cyrus has just Sato 0 and 1 so 2 drives can be connected. Normally that means 1 HDD and 1 DVD.

What SATA Card are you all using to add more SATA drives to your X5K?

On the safe side, SIL3512 is working fine. (tested and using it myself)

Don't use an sii3114 card, we have problems with that card on the X5K. it works, but it runs at PIO speed. Haven't found out why, yet.

My PCI slots are used by a sound card & network card. Are there any compatible PCI-E sata cards that you're aware of? I couldn't find any with the SIL3512.

Edit: There seem to be a number of PCI-E cards based on the SIL3132 -- has anyone tried that? Cards are cheap, so I might just order one and see for myself. :)

My sound card is pci-e...
So, my setup is
pci-e soundcard
pci network card
pci sata card

Sorry, I don't know any pci-e sata cards.

BTW, My sound card from AmigaKit was very inexpensive.

Thanks for the suggestion -- just ordered one. :)

I have a PCI SIL3112 card (somewhere) that was intended for my XE -- I wonder how well that would work?

It should work OK - I know others with Sii3112 cards that are working fine.

Ken, what was the Sound Card in your AOTL X5K? Was it not a PCI-Ex1 card?

Guess trying to better figure out what each port is for. I see we have 2 PCI, 3 PCI-Ex1, 1 PCI-Ex4, and then the GPU goes in the X16 slot.

So I take it the best config is PCI uses Network and SATA cards... Audio Sound in one of the PCI-Ex1, and GPU in X16. What are others using the PCI-Ex1 and X4 slots for?

Everyone else, your SATA Card, do any of you use one that has external SATA ports too?

I see some that offer 2 interal and 2 external SATA ports. Not sure if that means I could in theory have 2 more SATA ports inside going to internal drives and then use the external SATA ports for high speed external drives, say for backup drive or something.

Ah, OK... bummer.

They are not expensive so might have to get a PCI-E one then.

Was it the AmigaKit one you purchased or about to purchase?
