The CMI8738 cards are known to be buggy, even on PCs. On an X5000 they will hang the PCI bus and cause complete system lockups.
Some later models of the cards are OK, but I don't know how to tell by looking at the card.

Use something else.

The pciex1 network card should not cause any problems .
The CMI sound cards are the culprit.
You could try to get a pci sound blaster Live!

You think that'll work? It's only a few bucks, I don't mind trying.

But at the same time, my 'only a few bucks' is starting to add up ;)

Is there a list of cards that *will* work?

It seems there are multiple threads on multiple sites stating there's issues, but no real answer on what DOES work. After spending 2K on a machine, I'd rather not keep spending money in hopes of finding the right thing.

A Sound Blaster Live! worked ok as a CMI replacement for Xenic .

Fair enough. I did some looking around and the SB0220 series supposedly works fine. I ordered one for $15 shipped.

I got my SB Live! in today. Its been streaming from TuneIn for at least 20 minutes so far with no cut out at all. I sure hope that this is a winer. It ended up coming in a box as if it was new. I think its a NOS card. Sound much better than the SIIG that came with my machine too. Much better in fact. I've pulled the SIIG sticker off the chip and low and behold I found its a CMI8738 chip! Add me to the list of another X5000 owner with that card causing issues.
