More USB weirdness

I've noticed some weird happenings when attempting to pull files from a USB jump drive, iPhone, etc.
If I plug the jump drive or iPhone into the front USB sockets (haven't tried the rear ones), and then while files are transferring, attempt to do anything on the computer, the keyboard starts doing odd inputs.
If I try to type in a text box, the last character recognized (say "n") will then repeat over and over "nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn" until it finally gives up.
If I try to move a window around, the window gets 'moved' somewhere else on the screen, and much of the time, off screen and I'm unable to bring it back.
More or less, the computer is unusable while I move files. And since I'm moving 10GB over USB 2.0, this takes a -lot- of time.
