Firefox 50 and 52 work, but they display wrong colors for videos (YouTube), even after I disabled layers.acceleration in about:config.
Firefox 47 displays correct colors. Video playback also seems to be much smoother even using the native YouTube video player.
No change with VLC, still doesn't work on X5000. I haven't tested MPlayer/mpv yet, but I will let you know how it goes. Please consider adding Kodi if possible.
This is really great, thanks for all the hard work you've put into this!

Hi Casey,
I added
ViewTube 2017.03.08 to the MATE PowerPC Remix today. It works great! I can even watch 1080p YouTube videos. For Firefox 50.1, I had to create the directory
plugins and I had to copy the
libvlcplugin.so (browser-plugin-vlc) to this directory.
Code: Select all
cp /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libvlcplugin.so /home/amigaone/Apps/firefox-50.1.0-powerpc/plugins
It works with the correct colors. Unfortunately Firefox 52.0.2 doesn't support this plugin anymore. I know, the default VLC doesn't work on the X5000 but you could try the other options of ViewTube for example Xine, Totem, MPV, VTP, FLV, MPEG, MP4,HTML5, etc.

Hi Christian,
From deb-multimedia I installed mplayer 4:1.3.0~20170413.svn37931-dmo2 and its dependencies and ffmpeg and its dependencies (libavcodec57, libavdevice57, libavfilter6, libavformat57, libavresample3, libavutil55, libc6, libpostproc54, libsdl2-2.0-0, libswresample2, libswscale4, libav-tools)
In SMPlayer, in Preferences, under General, Video tab, you must select "gl (fast - ATI cards). Then you should also be able to check "Direct rendering", and under Performance, you should be able to select "vdpau" for Hardware decoding.

The same packages are installed on my MATE PowerPC Remix and I have the same preferences but unfortunately the MPlayer from the Debian Multimedia Repository is quite slow on my X1000.
Cheers,
Christian
