I've been getting an update notice daily. Obviously I had set it up longer ago than I can remember in System>Administration>Software & Updates, where I just found it and switched to every two days. I guess it was originally set to Never so I had to go through the update, upgrade procedure in the Terminal every so often.
I'm assuming doing it every day or two is harmless, at least to MATE 16.04.5, just annoying with the daily reminder that "your 16.04.5 is up-to-date but 18.04 is now available."
But I have been wondering whether updating/upgrading REMIX is safe, or would it install new things that will make it unusable? (Probably a stupid question, but I keep getting stupider nowadays.)
Updates
Re: Updates
Canonical removed the PowerPC architecture last year. Consequently Canonical will not releasing new PowerPC images and updates for new distributions like 17.10, 18.04, and 18.10. Ubuntu MATE 16.04 will continue to support 32-bit PowerPC until 2019 and Canonical will offer security updates for the version 16.04 until 2021. The latest LTS release is 16.04.5. Fortunately we have a fork of the last ubuntu MATE (17.04), which I have updated and released as the MATE PowerPC Remix 2017. The latest version is the 0.9. For this version there are some updates available.kilaueabart wrote: But I have been wondering whether updating/upgrading REMIX is safe, or would it install new things that will make it unusable?
